Further details indoors:
Some of our bedrooms hold a family by virtue of there being bunk-beds in addition to the normal double bed, or pair of singles. There are 6 toilets in all as well as 3 baths, all with showers too, and 3 separate showers as well. Towels cost extra, and there is a small charge for groups above 12 people (due to linen etc).
Further details outdoors:
The pool and lily pond are kept separate by a nice unobtrusive barrier (that can easily be removed by adults), and the lower garden has a number of trees in it, including a very old olive, and an old but very fruitful fig tree, as well as cherries, apples, nectarines and peaches.
Lots of grapes around too. We now have 3 swinging garden chairs in a nice space between the trees that makes an excellent area to sit in the evenings - or otherwise. Swings, slide and sandpit for the kids too.
Further details
Groups above 12 pay a small supplement, and towels are extra, as is electricity above a reasonable allowance of 50 units per week, and gas is charged, but like extra electricity, only at cost price. In winter, all energy is charged for, and that includes logs for the fire.
Conditions
In off season, we are happy to be flexible about periods less than a week, and you may have noticed that our capacity is negotiable...

Pezenas is in a small area with about 300 blue sky days a year, and is famous because it is the town of Moliere, is very old, and has a splendid old quarter (just a few steps from the house). Many artists have their studios and galleries here, and the town is amazingly active in putting on events and attractions from the past, with sword fights, music, food festivals, antique bazaars, ballads and fireworks to name just a few. It has a large and colourful Saturday market, and in summer, the many little shops in the maze of alleys in the old quarter stay open till midnight during the 'nocturnes'.
There are nearly 40 restaurants to choose from, all nearby. The tourist office is 1 minute from our house, is excellent, and their guided tour reveals many amazing buildings. All around Pezenas are famous vineyards, such as those of Faugeres, Corbieres and PicPoul, which you can visit. Pezenas is also home to world famous climber Alain Robert (Spiderman), who climbs the worlds highest buildings - he is often around in the bars and is very friendly.
The Pezenas area
Flamingoes are about 20 mins away, as is Meze, our favourite beach and fishing village. Carcassonne is under an hour and St Guilhem le Desert and Gorge Heric are 40 mins by car (all must see's). The landscape around Pezenas is varied and beautiful, with dozens of lovely villages, and lots of famous wine domains to visit along with the usual chateaux and abbeys, and a famous award winning garden, owned by a couple from the UK, is a mere 20 mins away.
Montpellier is a brilliant city to shop and eat in, and has a fantastic aquarium nearby, with several water parks between it and Beziers. Sete and Agde are world famous beach and seaside resorts, and both are only 35 mins away from Pezenas.

We enjoyed our stay at Maison Alaric. We had plenty of contact with Alaric before our arrival and he provided us with the 'Book of the House' which covered every detail of the letting from plumbing to WiFi and also included items of interest about the surrounding area. By the time we arrived we felt we knew everything there was to know. It is a great house and can accommodate large groups or smaller. We varied between 16 and 9 (our core group) and we were all very comfortable and didn't feel we filled the house at any time! The kitchen is wonderful and if we were 'at home' we spent most of our evenings there though we did use the upstairs drawing/dining room once for a birthday celebration. Because we were there in September we didn't spend our evenings on the terrace but I imagine that would be pleasant in the summer. The bedrooms are comfortable and there are plenty of bathrooms etc. The pool and terrace area are great and the garden secluded so although the house is virtually in the centre of town it was actually very quiet. (We were never actually quiet ourselves as we had 4 children with us all the time and for one week 8). Regarding people with disabilites - it would depend on the disability and the ability to negotiate stairs. Not all of us were young and fit, though. Our oldest person was 87 and used a stick - he had no problems. The Gardien responded quickly to any queries and he was a great help, especially as we didn't all speak good French. As we come from Australia and old is not really old in terms of buildings we spent much of our time wandering round Pèzenas looking at the fascinating old streets and alleyways. We also loved the bakeries and delicious baguettes and croissants - the local wine went down very well, too. We felt there was a very friendly atmosphere in the town. The area is in close proximity to many places of interest so it's a good hub if you don't want to just 'hang out' in Pèzenas. Car parking is provided on the property for two cars and the public car park at the rear was very safe and there was always space. We can whole heartedly recommend the house (and Pèzenas) it was a most enjoyable place in which to spend 4 weeks – in fact we were sad to leave. . |

Stayed for a couple weeks and this property is in a great spot just a pity it doesn't live up to the pictures. We stayed in this house for 3 weeks with a big group of extended family, including 7 children ages ranging from 4 to 12. The house is a kid's paradise, with the pool, yard, ping pong table and lots of space for them to play. Also, it is a less than 5 minute walk to the center of the old town, so the older kids had the freedom to walk into the old city and roam around in a group on their own. The house never felt crowded, it almost felt as if each family (there were four) had their own 'wing' of the house, and the kitchen and eating areas were spacious and well equipped and easily accommodated everybody. The house felt both grand and comfortable at the same time. |
