4 Paws is in the South of France, in the l'Hérault, part of the Languedoc Roussillon region, between Provence and the Spanish border.

Located 10 minutes northwest of Pézenas (a Medieval Market town) in the picturesque Roman and once fortified village of Roujan, it is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves - away from the madding summer crowd.

A full range of amenities is within walking distance.

Beaches and seaside resorts are a little over 20 kms away, the Garrigue and foothills of the Montagnes Noirs and the Cevennes a similar distance.

The 180° views from the property are considered spectacular.

The Gîte:-

4 Paws is a private, self-contained, luxury holiday home within a half acre landscaped garden with its own access - an independent lower floor next to the pool and garden, totally renovated in 2013, with a heated pool and a BBQ area exclusively for guests, lit up every evening.

There are 2 en-suite, double bedrooms and an open plan kitchen and sitting room with a large sofa bed. 4 Paws will sleep 4 very comfortably. There are beds for 6.

The kitchen is fully equipped. 4 Paws has its own laundry facilities.

All rooms have TV's, iPod dock's and high speed, broadband wi-fi access. The bedrooms are air-conditioned (reversible).

The gîte is the only part of the property rented out.

The Proprietors:-

Sabine and Graham, the owners, live on site, able to assist with any questions or problems. They are delighted to transmit their knowledge and love of the region, and help you make the most of your holiday.

On arrival you will receive your complimentary and personalized « welcome » hamper, food and necessities (for stays of a week or more), so that you will be able to start your holiday on the right footing with an aperitif (around the pool), wine, a light evening meal, and your first French style breakfast the following morning.

Our aim is to make you feel thoroughly welcome as well as to provide quality self catering accommodation, and exclusive use of the gîte, pool (Graham sometimes does fall in), garden and BBQ, based on a weekly stay starting every Sunday.

During the summer months i.e. from June through to the end of September, and for the 2 weeks around Easter bookings are only taken for full weeks, (unless there is last minute availability), Sunday to Sunday, from 4pm on the day of arrival until 10 am on the day of departure. Shorter stays can be arranged, long lets too, but from October to May ONLY. Kindly contact the owners.

Your Holiday:-

Located slightly inland between the sea and the mountains, this is a region that begs to be explored. You can choose your type of holiday. Lazy by the pool or perhaps more active, for you will find in the immediate vicinity ….long sandy beaches, mountains, the Garrigue, numerous castles, cities dating back 1000 years, vineyards and fine wines, olive groves, music, art and theatrical festivals, numerous sporting activities, and, in accordance with our times, luxury shopping malls and casinos. Take your pick.

You will be sent an "In House Guide" of cherry picked suggestions. In the Sun Lounge there are addresses, opening times, maps, Tourist Books and Leaflets, suggested restaurants, and proposed day-trips out, etc

Top Tips:-

Rent a car if you plan on exploring the area, but for poolside, or walking holidays you can get by without.

Graham can come and pick you up from your Airport or Gare TGV (at a competitive price). He has a car which you could rent on a daily basis.

Dog and cat lovers - there are 2 shy dogs and 7 cautious cats on the property so regretfully the owners cannot accept your pets.

AND last but not least,

the Weather:-

The sun shines 300 days of the year in Roujan - the summer months June-September rarely see daytime temperatures fall below 18°C.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The Languedoc Roussillon is where the Cathars were established between the 12th and 14th centuries. Even today you can imagine villages hidden and protected from the outside world with guards posted to warn the villagers of intruders.

The villa is set in the heart of the Hérault, located 10 minutes northwest of Pezenas in the fortified village of Roujan (34320); 20 kms from Beziers Airport, 28 kms by road from the renowned Mediterranean beaches of Valras & Serignan, - 55 mins from Narbonne, Montpellier and Sète - under 2 hours to the Spanish border.

This is a relatively undiscovered destination, between the sea and the mountains, that begs to be explored. You can choose your type of holiday. Lazy and relaxing or active, for you will find close by ….

• long sandy beaches

• chateau's (castles) and Cathar vestiges

• the mountainous National Parks of the Haut-Languedoc and des Cévennes (discovered on a donkey by Robert Louis Stevenson)

• the Garrigue, Mediterranean moorlands great for hikes, or just wander around in the peaceful olive groves or up the Canal de Midi

• vineyards, wineries – discover high quality, interestingly distinctive, wines

• markets with tempting regional produce

• dozens of sporting activities

Adventure parks, Billiards, Boating, Boules, Caving, Ceramics, Cycling, Fishing, Flying, French tuition, Go karting, Golf, Gourmet dining, Hiking, Horse riding, Mountain biking, Paragliding, Photography, Rambling, Rock climbing, Sailing, Shopping, Sightseeing, Swimming, Tennis, Walking, Water skiing, Wind Surfing, Wine tasting, Wine touring, horse riding, tennis, even terra sailing on Narbonne plage

• culture: - a wide and rich choice throughout the summer months - numerous cultural, art, theatre and music festivals. Montpellier boasts an Opera House. There are Jazz and Rock concerts too.

The cities of Carcassonne, Montpellier, Narbonne, Sète, Nimes and Perpignan are literally steeped in history. Each one has its own story to tell going back 2000 years with multiple points of interest - guided tours, museums ........ and in tune with modern times luxury Shopping Centres

So, whatever is your taste, a wide and rich choice exists within easy reach

And perhaps less to everyone's tastes, go and see a Bullfight!

A little further away (for an adventurous day out) you might want to visit Van Gough's Arles and/or the Camargue ......... and,

As for the Weather: - The sun shines 1.6 times more often in Roujan than is the average in France as a whole. It is said that there are 300 sunny days every year in the Languedoc Roussillon. The best months are May through to October, when daytime temperatures rarely fall below 18°C. Summers can be beautifully “hot”. Spring is clear and sunny. Summer tends to linger on.

Pézenas is a Medieval Market town with an incredible if slightly decrepit old town centre. Molière is very much linked to the town. There is a local market every Saturday full of local produce.

Roujan itself: - the fortified village of Roujan was in fact founded by the Romans. Today the "city" gates can still be seen. It is a typical Oc vigneron village but less sleepy than many, in fact economically dynamic, hence the wealth of amenities and an active tourist office grouping together the Communauté de Communes Coteaux et Châteaux.

Amenities in the village, all within easy walking distance, include: -

• a Supermarket and Mall

• Restaurants

• Bistros

• Bakers

• a comprehensive Medical Centre, Pharmacy abd Opticians

• Petrol Stations and Garages

• a cooperative Winery.

There is a "sometime" medieval atmosphere that lingers, as though this part of the world was frozen in time. Bédarieux, for example, has a 1950's look and feel to it. The first European Medical School was established in Montpellier, and thrives today.

But, in the nineteen century wine became the dominant activity and the Oc remains the highest volume wine producer in the EU.

This is perhaps why this location is not jam-packed with tourists (unlike the very crowded Côte d'Azur). We are to be found between the sea and the mountains. There is so much to discover, and SPACE.
