"This is the 2nd year in a row we've stayed at one of Ann and Johns houses and yet again we weren't disappointed. Syrah is a very private 3 bedroom house set behind gates on a quiet road in the village of Aumes. The house itself was immaculately presented, a good size and very clean. Some holiday homes we've rented in the past have been rather soulless however this felt like home from home. Outside there was plenty of room with a super private pool and BBQ area. The house itself is located in a quiet village whilst also being close to local amenities with the town of Pezenas being only 5 minutes away. We'd have no hesitation in returning! Highly recommended".

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
On holiday you will want to relax round the pool and for some days you may want to go further afield. This is no problem at all, you will be in one of the most beautiful areas of France, and your holiday home is only a few kilometers from the sea. You can go walking in the National Parks, follow the trail of the Cathares (you should read The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail before you come ISBN 0-552-12138-X ) and investigate one of Europe's greatest mysteries ( and maybe find the treasure!). You can look out for the Via Domita (the Roman road running from Rome to Spain which is still visible in parts), or visit the Mediterranean ports of Meze, Bouzigues, Sete, etc and enjoy sea-food caught the same day and looking out over the fishing boats.
This part of the Languedoc is truly wonderfull, and retains much of the magic of other times.
Ther are hundreds of sites and activities, amongst them are: The Grottos, Aqualand, St. Guilhem le Desert, canoeing, sea swimming, beaches, etc etc.
Other Activities: Searching out antique bargains, house hunting, trips to Spain, eating out.
Golf: We have a number of golf courses within easy reach, the nearest one being St. Thomas about 30 minutes away. Golfers have stayed with us and tell us that they found it very friendly, with a good restaurant.
Your nearest large town is Pezenas, a market town with a long and impressive history.
The Pezenas market day is Saturday and you can find an open market in at least one of the surrounding villages each day.
There is a very good tourist office which provides information about activities and events.
From Aumes you will be about 15 minutes from the nearest beach in Meze, and the med is about 30 minutes away. Sete is one of the largest fishing ports on the Mediterranean and well worth a visit, plenty of quayside restaurants and Mont Saint Clair gives fantastic views of the Etang de Thau with its famous oyster and mussel beds.
Behind Aumes are hills which are home to dozens of villages which are pretty much as they were decades ago with small bars, restaurants and a warm welcome. Boat trips are available on the sea or the Etang de Thau. River canoeing is very popular.
Wine production is the primary function of our area, vineyards abound as do Domaines with private producers and the larger Cave Co-operatives which were set up nearly a hundred years ago to help the small producers more efficiently. What used to be the largest co-op in the world is at Montagnac, 2 kilometers away. Fortunately it's still operating and makes some very good wines.
