The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The land of a thousand chateaux, the Dordogne or Perigord as it was known,is split into four regions named for their natural features. Noir(black) region of dense forests, Vert(green) spruce trees, Pourpre(purple)vines and Blanc(white) natural limestone. Due to its natural beauty and abundance of medieval towns, chateau and villages, the perigord noir is the jewel in the crown of the Dordogne.
The Vezere Valley, with its predominance of prehistoric sites, makes this region one of the most visited. The medieval towns of Sarlat, Les Eyzies and the vibrant city of Perigueux and many traditional villages, each with a character of their own, including Domme, Rocamador, Beynac, Le Roque Gageac, Montignac with the famous Lascaux caves, St Leon sur Vezere, makes the region a real sight seeing experience.
The Peyzac Le Moustier area
The small village of Le Moustier derives its name from the prehistoric Mousterian era due to an important skull find there. It has a restaurant and boulangerie which is only 5 mins walk from the house and is situated between Montignac and Les Eyzies, site of the oldest prehistoric human remains.
The house is situated opposite Le Roque St Christophe, a site inhabited from prehistoric time until as late as the 16th century. This kilometer long cave carved into the rock thousands of years ago is lit up at night and makes a spectacular view from the house. Local activities include canoeing and kayaking on the Vezere with starting points at Le Moustier and at different stages along the river, horse riding, tennis, cycle hire. Golf, hot air ballooning, river cruises and more are all within 30 - 40 mins drive.

Guestbook for Le Manoir Des Granges
Nous étions 14 personnes, 4 couples et plein d'enfants. L'endroit est magique avec cette vue extra, la piscine, les chambres très cosy, la décoration agréable et l'accueil très chaleureux. Paul & Philippa sont très sympathiques.
Le Manoir des Granges was the perfect holiday destination. Such a beautiful setting! The accomodation was superb, fully equipped and with so much character. Paul and Philippa were the ideal hosts with great local knowledge and always happy to help. Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday.
Robert and Helen Blaikie, UK
Our group of nine adults spent the week of Sept. 17th-24th in the Main House. The house was large enough to comfortably accommodate the group. All of the group especially appreciated the large bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms. The dining table was our favorite place for the whole group to gather to share our daily adventures.
The location was perfect to explore the surrounding area. Also excellent restaurants, a large grocery store and bakery were within in minutes of the house.
Paul and Philippa, the most cordial of hosts were always available to suggest places to see. Their recommendation for a local tour guide to visit prehistoric caves and a chef to prepare a gourmet meal at the house delighted the group.
Thank you Paul and Philippa for sharing your lovely home and your hospitality in the beautiful Dordogne area, making our holiday truly memorable.

We, 9 men from Germany, rented Le Manoir des Granges (Main House and Tobacco Barn) in May 2011 for one week. We had 9 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom.
These rooms were in a very good condition, also the living rooms, the dining rooms and the kitchens, which were well equipped. So we could prepare our common meals without any problems.
Because the weather was very fine, we could sit outside each evening and enjoy the fantastic view to Roque St. Christophe.
Le Manoir des Granges was a good starting point for our different activities like golfing, cycling, canoeing on the Vezere and visiting historical monuments, towns and castles in this
fascinating area. Those, who sometimes wanted to relax at home, had a calm place at the pool inside the garden.
Paul and Philippa were excellent hosts, because they act reserved, but if we needed any help or information we could get them in a very short time in a very friendly manner.
Be sure, we will come back ! Helmut Hartmann
Our family of nine from Australia, spanning three generations, stayed in this fabulous house in April 2011. It was perfect for our needs. The six bedrooms meant everyone who needed their own bedroom could have one, and each room had their own bathroom (luxury). The huge dining table and well equipped kitchen meant that we could all comfortably eat together and we prepared most of our meals at home. There is so much space in and around the house that we hardly saw our younger children (6 and 8 years). They even braved the pool in April, though I confess the weather was unseasonably warm. And Philippa and Paul were such excellent hosts, very helfpul and approachable. This made navigating the area so much easier. We loved the Dordogne. Each day we found it more enchanting. There were many fun and different things to do and places to explore, as well as spectacular scenery and beautiful walks.
Thank you to Philippa and Paul for having us to stay in their house. We would highly recommend it. The White family, Australia
We were told about Le Manoir des Granges and saw it online, as soon as we saw the location and the pictures of the house we knew we had to visit.
A group of us planned our trip for a week in May, flying to Brive airport and picking up hire cars from there.
The Manoir was just an hour drive from the airport and through some very beautiful countryside but nothing was to compare to what we found when we pulled up to Le Manoir des Granges...it was stunning.
We stayed in the house but we also got to have a glimpse into the gites, everywhere you turned it was clean, tidy, well equipped and bursting with rustic French charm.
The location was perfect, central for the Vezere valley. During our visit we went to Sarlat market, La Roque St Christophe (which has a tremendous view of Le Manoir des Granges and vice versa!), we canoed down the Vezere, visited Montignac, drank lots of lovely local wine and ate lots and lots of AMAZING food!!!!
Paul and Philippa couldn't have done more for us during our stay, so helpful with local information and always pointed us in the right direction...a big thank you to you both!
We didn't want to leave and we are already planning our next holiday here. Matt Harvey
We stayed at the Hay Barn at Peyzac Le Moustier In January 2011. Although still in the winter months Paul and Philippa made us extremely welcome. The Haybarn itself was comfortable spacious and warm with adequate crockery and cooking facilities for our stay. The Haybarn was clean, presentable and the bathroom had a super shower (and bath) with heaps of hot water. We had a nice view over the swimming pool and there was also a patio area where we sat and drank a glass of wine in the winter sun. Paul and Philippa were always ready to help us with our little daily needs including maps and a glossary of the local area. Thank you very much Paul and Philippa
