The Paphos region

Paphos is home to the second international airport in Cyprus. With its’ year round sunshine and a city steeped in history, Paphos is an excellent holiday destination for young and old alike.
Paphos was once the Roman capital of Cyprus and is now listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO – with its redeveloped harbour, Tomb of the Kings, ancient mosaics situated in the Paphos Archaeological Park, Byzantine churches, Crusader Castles and Christian Catacombs, to name but a few places to visit. It is believed that Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty rose from the waves and crashed on the shores. Remnants of this legend can be visited today in a number of features including The Venus Rock and the Baths of Aphrodite.
Overlooking the harbour is the 13th Century Castle. It was rebuilt by the Lusignans and then dismantled by the Venetians in 1570, who were unable to defend it against the Ottomans, who then restored and strengthened it after capturing the island. Since 1935 it has been declared an ancient monument and is now considered as one of the hallmarks of the Paphos region.
To the side of the Castle is the Odeon Theatre which was erected in the 2nd Century and, in spite of its’ tiny size, is one of the most famous in the world. It is still in use today and hosts a variety of outdoor music concerts and performing arts productions.
More up-to-date, the harbour of Paphos has just been redeveloped with a pedestrian friendly promenade fronted by shops, bars and restaurants, where you can sit with a Cypriot coffee or cold beer in the year round sunshine and just watch the world go by.
Making full use of the Mediterranean climate, Paphos also boasts the centrally located and sandy municipal beach. There is also Faros Beach, which tends to be a quieter option. The blue flag beach of Coral Bay is just 3km away, easily reached by the user friendly public transport.
If you are feeling more energetic, there is the Paphos Aphrodite Water Park. It holds the biggest family rafting ride in Europe and attracts over 100,000 visitors each year. Whether it’s pulse-pounding excitement, slippery challenges, relaxing activities and sunbathing, or a combination of all three, there's something for everyone here – a cool fun way to spend a hot day.
For an example of days out and touring the island of Cyprus, there is:
Limassol – for many years a major holiday resort and known for its’ festivals and archaeological sites.
Troodos mountains, dotted with traditional villages, is a major attraction in the summer months and, with snowfall during January to March, also offers skiing and snowboarding.
The list is endless, so why not visit Cyprus yourself and discover her many treasures. Excellent public transport, abundant inexpensive taxis and easy driving (they drive on the left), make touring this island a pleasure.
The Peyia / Peyia Village area
Peyia has traditional tavernas and restaurants, some of which offer a take-away service, There's a local Greek Orthodox Church, supermarkets, banks, bakers, butchers, chemist, doctor and dentist – a truly self-contained village. The near-by attractions include the Sea Caves, Paphos Bird Park, Reptile Farm, Go-karting and Horse-riding.
3km away is the blue flag beach of Coral Bay, stretching for 2km with some of the best scenery in Cyprus. The beach has parking facilities and easy access for the disabled. Public transport stops right by the beach. You can indulge in snorkelling and water sports, laze on a sun bed or have a meal in the beach restaurant. There are also shower and toilet facilities. Coral Bay itself is fairly lively with many shops, restaurants and cocktail bars.
Akamas Peninsula and villages is 6km from Peyia. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, deep gorges and wild landscape, with beautiful walks and nature trails.
Tsada Championship golf course is situated approximately 9km from Peyia. Opened in 1994, Tsada is situated in a fertile gently sloping valley some 550m above sea level. A par-72 layout measuring 6,060m and consisting of two loops of nine holes.
Lara Bay is an important turtle breeding site, home to endangered species of turtle. The small town of Polis, a scenic drive across the Akamas Peninsula leads to Latchi – a picturesque harbour, known throughout Cyprus for its’ fresh fish. From Polis, you can also take a short cruise around Akamas.

We loved the layout of the apartment very spacious, comfortable, modern and clean. Fantastic pool layout, very welcoming, helpful neighbours,. Local restaurants in walking distance along with shops, banks etc. Coral Bay also in walking distance or 5 minute drive, great for bit of nightlife plus many restaurants, spoilt for choice. Water park only 30 minute drive away, our family thoroughly enjoyed this. We also enjoyed the vist to the harbour only 30 minutes away. There seem to be plenty more places of interest to visit which we intend to do on our next stay. This was our first time visit to Cyprus, we found the locals very friendly, weather fabulous, we will definately be returning next year |

Guestbook for Tamarisk at Nemesis
I have had the perfect relaxation holiday. The apartment is lovely and feels just like a home from home, you feel like you can relax and take things easy as soon as you arrive. In fact I didn't want to leave when the holiday ended.

I highly recommed this apartment, all mod cons and the pool was lovely. I'm looking forward to a return visit.

I met up with friends whilst in Cyprus and think I was the envy of the group, as the apartment is lovely and has been well furnished to a high standard. The complex is lovely. Lovely size swimming pool, much larger than most I saw. I was surprised how handy the underground carpark was for keeping the car cool during the day. Cyprus is a fantastic holiday destination and so many people are friendly. The whole experience was great.

Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed staying in your apartment at Nemesis. It was absolutely perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We have returned relaxed and tanned and are looking forward to returning to Cyprus next year. The weather was absolutely brilliant and the best we've known for November in the 5 years we've been staying in Cyprus. Once again many thanks and we will be in touch with a view to booking for November 2011.
