The Paphos region


Breathtaking landscapes, Mountain Villages, old ladies still tending their goats. Golden beaches, cool forests, and the fragrance of the olive and citrus tress. Natural beauty: now this is the Paphos area!
Modern Paphos is the fastest growing town on the Island with many fine beaches, sandy beaches and excellent leisure facilities. Surrounded by Majestic scenery including banana plantations (the only area in Cyprus to have bananas) and the Akamas conservation area where the Turtles lay their eggs.
Its cultural and historical riches include the colourful mosaics in the House of Dionysos preserved for sixteen centuries under the soil. You can also see the Christian catacombs ancient Byzantine churches, castles mediaevel fort and the Tomb of the Kings. In September you can book tickets for the open air theatre at the Old Fort at Paphos harbour where you will see famous Ballets or Operas. Tickets from the Cyprus Tourist board.
At the harbour you can book a sunset cruise or hire speed boats.
Coral Bay has the best natural beach in the area. With a gentle breeze shallows where children can play safely and pleasent swimming in the calm sea that remains warm until early December. There is also an array of watersports that will satisfy the spots enthusiasts.
The Peyia area
Peyia one of the largest biggest villages in Cyprus. A Delightful self contained village where the Cypriots and British come together.Built high in the rigged Hills with amazing views of the surrounding hills sloping towards the sea at Coral Bay and the coastline of Paphos. Peyia is set around a traditional village square with its fragrant municipal gardens, tavernas seving the best Cypriot and International cuisine. The original village jail is now a charming pub in a small window tucked high in the corner.
A Great starting point to explore the rugged Akamas Penninsula, local historic sites, museums, wineries, walking trails and much more.

from the minute we booked maria was very helpful,the villa was superb and the views fantastic,the 10 metre swimming pool was a bonus, and the situation of the villa couldnt have been better within a few minutes walk from the village of peyia. |

Maria McLaren, the owner, made the booking process very easy and was helpful arranging a welcome pack and calling to collect payment for this once we had settled in. Villa McLaren is a well appointed villa just a short walk from Peyia village with tavernas, supermarket and bakers etc., and short drive to Coral Bay beach and around 30 minutes to Paphos town. We have been to Villa McLaren twice now and would not hesitate to return. It is a very comfortable 'home from home' villa with a well fitted kitchen, and comfortable beds and sofas and a large family bathroom. Great to have separate utility with washing machine. The pool area, patio, and outside comfortable seating, were a particular favourite of ours, although I understand from the owner this seating has been changed recently, but is just as comfortable as the rattan set shown in the photos. The villa is situated on a very peaceful estate (the only noise you hear are the birds and the odd car occasionally driving up the approach road to the estate), this is mostly due to the majority of apartments that have been built nearby, not being occupied on both of our visits. The villa is situated quite high in the hills and has spectacular views across to Paphos, and is easily accessible from the airport and Paphos harbour and of course Coral Bay. The only negatives I would comment on are unfortunately the Sky TV has not been working on both of our visits, so would recommend you take some DVDs for children and maybe a good film, or two, to watch in the evenings you want to stay in, if TV entertainment is important to you on a holiday. The ensuite shower room is a little tired and old fashioned, and could do with a refurbishment, though perfectly adequate. The railings at the end of the patio/pool area would not be suitable for families with young children, as there are large gaps between the rails and a 5' to 6' drop below it onto a rough unlandscaped plot. This 'open' aspect rail allows for better views from the patio, but maybe replacing this with a modern glass fence would be a better option for the future. Having mentioned the negatives, we would not hesitate to return, as Villa McLaren represents excellent value for money, especially for larger groups. Response: Thank you for your kind comments.
