The Paphos region

Typically long, hot Summers and warm Springs this idyllic part of Cyprus combines rural country charm with the rugged coastline and azure sea. Paphos itself is steeped in historical myths and legends, many associated with the goddess Aphrodite. The Tombs of the Kings displaying excellent mosaics are right by the sea, not far from a now resplendent quay and marina, where boat craft and fish restaurants vie for attention. A short cruise to Egypt is also available from here if you have an extra 3 days!
A short drive north of Peyia is the attractive north coast. Polis is a small town with a lively market square and Latchi is a pretty fishing village. Fish restaurants line its natural promenade and deep sea diving is its hidden attraction. Within close distance are the baths of Aphrodite and the start of the renowned Akamas Peninsular. This is a walkers paradise, where you can carry the rugged azure coastline on your right and the mountain goats to your left! Much of the coastline between Coral Bay and and the peninsular is an area of conservation boasting many natural bays, coves and caves, hence the alluring location Sea Caves.
To drive to the hills amongstt the olive groves behind Peiya is another experience; here you can stumble across typical Cypriot hamlets portraying an air of 'time gone by'. Further on there are monasteries to be discovered and if you have a day to spare - the Troodos mountains beckon!
The Peyia / Peyia Village area
Peyia enjoys fine views over Coral Bay, being just 2/3 kms inland and on a gradient. Although it has grown in size it has still managed to maintain its Cypriot village charm. There are a plethora of shops including a bank, chemist, butcher, fishmonger, baker, delicatessen and at least 3 supermarkets, all seeing a good mix of authentic Greek and English commodities. These are all within walking distance of the property.
The historic church is central to the village and there are steps leading down to an attractive square where outdoor weddings are frequently celebrated. There are numerous taverns offering Cypriot mezes (several one course dishes of either fish or meat), a themed restaurant and cafes (one is a converted mill).
Local wines are delightful and obtainable from both the numerous vineyards just a short drive away as well as the local supermarkets.
