The Paphos region
Paphos, built around the medieval port and once the capital of Cyprus, is a vibrant cosmopolitan area. Abundant in history, culture and beauty, it is an ideal region to plan a holiday in the sunshine. With over 300 days of sunshine and warmth per year, Cyprus is ideal for a late or early holiday in the sun. Known as the place where Aphrodite walked in from the sea, it is immensley popular with holidaymakers, yet still retains character and ancient history.
The Paphos region is surrounded by typical Cypriot villages, idyllic quaint buildings, beautiful flowers and the locals who amble around without a care in the world.
The area is fitting for most interests; the sporty can peruse many activities including, horse riding, walking, paint balling, swimming, paragliding to name but a few. The historians amongst you will have a marvellous selection of relics to peruse. This island is definately steeped in history including
the ancient mosaics, the Baths of Aphrodite, the Medieval Fort and The Tombs of the Kings.
For the culinary fanatics there is every type of international cuisine you can think of with an abundance of restaurants and tavernas, however the Cypriot meze has to be on your list to try.
The old town with markets and the harbour offers a wide range of bars, restaurants and night clubs while there is a covered market in the town centre. Paphos International Airport is approximately 25 minutes by car.
30 minutes to the north is the delightful town of Polis and the Harbour at Latchi famous for its charmning seaside restaurants. Beyond the scenic Sea Caves and St Georges area one can discover the beautiful, unspoilt Akamas Peninsula, or take a day trip to North Cyprus or the Troodos Mountains
Peyia is a delightful holiday village set 15km north west of Paphos on the hillside overlooking Coral Bay. The village lies about 3km above Coral Bay and, once a settlement for shepherds, it has now become an enthrawling haven for holidaymakers from all over the world.
It proudly holds onto its Cypriot way of life and charm, having said that the village has grown dramatically in the last 10 years with several tavernas in the main square, Cypriot coffee houses, supermarkets, banks, church and bars. The centre of the village is the original area and this is where all the locals meet, eat at the local tavernas and sip coffee and put the world to rights on a daily basis! The village also has several supermarkets, a fishmongers, butchery shops, pharmacies, bakeries, banks and hairdressers.
Peyia is approximately 35 minute drive from Paphos airport and is well placed for access to the 3 main golf courses in Cyprus (all within 30 minutes drive) and sits at the fringe of the Akamas Peninsula, a National Park area designated for special protection from development.

"Lovely villa with great views"
We stayed at Villa Azure for 14 nights in August 2012 (2 adults and 2 teenagers). We very much appreciated the location of the villa, being on a hill overlooking the coast and being within easy reach of Coral Bay, Paphos, as well as Polis and Latchi in the other direction. A car is a necessity, even for a trip to the nearby village of Peigia where there are a couple of supermarkets and a few eating places. The villa is located at the end of a cul-de-sac so there is no passing traffic and for most of the time, day and night, it was very quiet. The property is ideal for a family with older children or for a group of friends.

"Friends converge on Villa Azure"
Four Canadian diplomats living in three different countries recently met in Cyprus at Villa Azure. This location was selected due to the proximity of Coral Bay Divers. The Villa has plenty of room for friends to spread out and enjoy themselves. A well appointed kitchen and living space on the upper floor lead out to a balcony and a breathtaking view of Coral Bay and the Mediterrean Sea. The lower level has three bedrooms and two bathrooms (there is also a guest toilet on the upper level). Two of the bedrooms open onto the pool deck. There is also a side door exit to a small dining area with a BBQ and access to the pool area. The pool is lovely, however, the water temperature was unfortunately a bit on the chilly side. The pool would have been used a lot more had the water been heated. A car is a must, as it is a bit of a hike to the village grocery, I did it twice but if you are buying anything heavy then it would be difficult to carry as the return walk is all uphill. It is definitely to far to walk to the beach. All in all we had a lovely time at Villa Azure and should any one of us ever travel back to the Coral Bay area we would definitely look at renting Villa Azure again.
