The Paphos region
The Paphos region offers an all year round Mediterranean climate and as a result is very popular with visitors from various European countries looking for a cosmopolitan, warm and stylish holiday.
Paphos is according to legend the birth place of the Greek Goddess of Love, Aphrodite and is a World Heritage site. The old town of Paphos offers Roman villas; Byzantine churches and Crusader castles. Kato Paphos is home to the old harbour, the Byzantine Castle, Tombs of the king, St Pauls Pillar to mention a few of the historical attractions.
If archaeology is not your thing why not try some of the other activities available, maybe take a drive to the Akamas peninsular, see the turtles at Lara Beach. Perhaps wine tasting at one of the local wineries is more up your street! For those sporty types amongst you there is an abundance of activities such as, golf, horse riding, water sports or enjoy a day out at the Aphrodite Waterpark. Paphos has it all!
Peyia and Coral Bay have a wide range of excellent facilities: supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants. Paphos (Pafos) and The Akamas Penisula, which is an outstanding area of natural beauty, are only a short drive away. There is much to do: Fishing, Climbing, Cycling, Mountain Biking, Horse Riding, Off-Roading. etc.. There is also a variety of cultural and historical attractions within a very short distance. Other local amenities: golf, sailing, water skiing, boat hire, wind surfing, tennis, scuba diving, snorkelling, skiing historic sites, museum, zoo, water park, karting.
Peyia (Pegia) Village: The beautiful village of Peyia with its traditional taverns and coffee shops is only a 2 minute drive or 10 min walk. It is a great place to while away a relaxing lunchtime with a plateful of Meze and a cold bottle of Keo beer. It also boasts excellent restaurants as well as supermarkets, banks, pharmacy, bakery etc. In nearby Coral Bay there is an even greater selection of shops, bars and restaurants.
If you prefer your afternoons to be a little more active you'll find a number of local companies offering every white-knuckled pursuit from go-karting to paragliding, otherwise it's a short drive to the many fantastic sandy beaches in this area including the blue flag beach at Coral Bay.
Other local areas are Polis, Latchi and Tala which offer attractions such as Aphrodites Rock and the Adonis Baths with natural waterfalls
The Akamas Peninsula is within 15 mins drive and is an area of outstanding natural beauty - deep gorges, a wild landscape, wide sandy bays (including Lara Bay Home to the Green Turtle, one of the few places in the Mediterranean where this turtle returns to breed). It is also an area of great biodiversity and ecological significance. Home to 530 plant species, a third of the total for Cyprus, 126 of which are endemic to Cyprus. An unspoilt wild place thanks to its inaccessibility. Great for walking and nature lovers!
Paphos is a short drive away with its Picturesque harbour and fort.
Cyprus is a wonderful island of contrasts. Where else could you ski in the morning and then be sunning yourself by the pool or on the beach in the afternoon? The snows on Mount Olympus are a fabulous way of spending a winter morning in the Ski Cyprus arena and are less that an hours drive away.
There are various golf courses within a short drive of the apartment. Details of the three most popular are included below:
Minthis Hills Golf Club -
Founded in 1994 on the hills of Tsada, set on the grounds of 12th century monastery, in a verdant valley. Situated on the outskirts of Pafos, the altitude of 550 meters above sea level ensures cool breezes during the summer months.
Secret Valley Golf Club -
The Secret Valley Golf Course, is a highly prestigious golf course located by the renowned area of 'Petra tou Romiou', the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of love. It is set in a scenic valley surrounded by mature trees and beautiful natural rock formations. Consistently appearing as the preferred course amongst the island's visiting players in terms of sheer playability and enjoyment.
