The Paphos District
The Republic of Cyprus is situated in the eastern mediterranean, and with a warm and dry climate has over 300 days of sunshine each year. Summer ranges from May to September and is dry and hot. The western coast around Peyia is more pleasant than other parts of the island, kept cooler by gentle sea breezes. Autumn is warm and generally dry, and is very comfortable. Winter runs from December to February, and whilst wet and cool, is considerably warmer than the UK! Spring is a wonderful time to visit, as the countryside is very green and covered in blossom.
Cyprus has much to offer the visitor, and is far more than just a beach destination. Its many invaders have all left their mark, and Paphos boasts some fine mosaics and roman/byzantine ruins. The Troodos mountains contain stunning scenary, pretty villages and world heritage site frescos. Nicosia and Limassol offer great shopping opportunities, and don't miss the September wine festival in Limassol.
Cyprus is also a great destination to travel on to other places in the eastern mediterranen, and mini cruises are available to Rhodes, Beirut, Syria, Israel and Egypt.
Peyia area
Peyia village has a number of good restaurants and bars, with other excellent Cypriot tavernas in nearby villages such as Kathikas and Kissonerga. The Coral Bay area is only 2 km away, and this has the best sandy beach in the area with numerous watersports available. The Paphos Birdpark and Snake George's Reptile Park are also nearby. The Laona plateau and Peyia forest offer great walking.
Paphos has all the facilities you would expect of a large town, including beaches, archeological attractions and museums, cinema, bowling, a large water park, go-karting and a golf course. The old town market is great for local shopping.
How to get there
