The Kent region

Petham

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty some 4 miles outside of the cathedral city of Canterbury on the old Roman road to Hythe. Coast is reachable in three directions, from Whitstable with its oysters around through the resorts of Thanet like Ramsgate, Margate and Dickensian Broadstairs, the nature reserve of Sandwich, historic Walmer, Deal and Dover, the more sedate Hythe and on to the wilds of the Romney Marshes. A wealth of gardens, houses and castles are within easy reach as well as hidden gems of country villages. Sports facilities are plentiful, from scuba diving to horse riding, go karting to golf and badminton to clay pigeon shooting. There are plenty of walks including the likes of the Saxon Shore Way. Shopping is well catered for from the outlet centre at Ashford to Bluewater further up the county and of course nearby Canterbury. The Channel port of Dover is a 15 min drive whilst the Tunnel is just one junction on the nearby motorway meaning a day on the Continent is a simple run. For foreign visitors wishing to visit London, it's an hours drive or less than 40 minutes on the high speed train link from Ashford.
