Fen-Acre
About the home
Crowland is a town with a village feel. You know the sort of place, full of little treasures like the old fashioned teashop and friendly Italian restaurant. It's just 15 minutes drive to the A1 or Peterborough with its magnificent Cathedral, it's shopping, theatres and high speed trains to London, and Spalding with its horticultural history and award winning garden centres galore. If it's history you're after then you are less than 30 minutes from the historic town of Stamford, home to Burghley House and just a 50 minute drive to the Queen's country estate of Sandringham.
The landscape of the Fens is renowned for having huge skies, they say that's why artists love to come here and why so many have settled here. But it's more than that. It's growing country, especially bulbs. In spring there are fields full of daffodils, narcissi and tulips, hence the world famous Spalding Flower Festival that happens every year in April.
It's true to say that the fens is a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle but if you want to dip into all that activity once in a while it's close enough to do so.

The East Anglia / Cambridgeshire region
On the border of East Anglia and the East Midlands, this part of Lincolnshire is known as South Holland because of it's links to the bulb growing regions of Holland. Crowland is almost on the boundary of Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire. One of the sunniest and driest places in England we seldom get the extremes of the weather. An hours drive east will take you to the wash and the Norfolk coast where you can enjoy the endless sandy beach at Old Hunstanton. Stop at Sandringham on the way and visit the Queen, well, have tea in her tearoom! Cambridge is about the same distance away so pay a visit to the colleges and enjoy a punt on the river there. An hours drive north will take you to Lincoln with it's beautiful and historic Cathedral that looks out over the town from the top of the hill. A 20 minuted drive east and you are in the lovely stone town of Stamford where several period costume dramas have been filmed, often making use of the nearby stately home of Burghley House. Go south and discover St Ives and Huntingdon with it's links to Oliver Cromwell. If it's shopping you're after Queensgate Peterborough offers a vibrant indoor centre as well as the town centre. If that's not enough to part you with your money then London Kings Cross is just a 50 minute train ride away. Get a cheap day return and spend, spend, spend!
The Peterborough / Crowland area
Renowned for it's 13th century Abbey, and historic triangle stone bridge, Crowland is a close knit community, more akin to a village than a town. Come in June when the Crowland Show brings out the crowds for a fun filled day or come in August when the Abbey is bedecked in flowers for the Flower Festival. With several public houses, take aways, a tea shop, fish and chip shop and an Italian restaurant you need never cook on your holiday if you don't want to. If you do want to there are 3 small supermarkets open early till late, a butchers, plus a new deli opening shortly. There's also a large Dr's surgery, a Dentist and a Chemist.
