About the home

As featured on TV's Channel 4's The Great Italian Escape. Our TV Stars Dave (the rabbit) and the girls (hens), gifts from Richard and Sarah, await you visiting them. (No autographs given).

We are situated in the foothills of the Tuscan Mountain range. Villages that can be seen from our property include: Pietrabuona, Vellano and Aramo. The farmhouse and olive grove are surrounded by 12 acres of Chestnut Woods.
Towns nearby include the "City of flowers" (Pescia) at 8 minutes drive, Lucca is an ancient walled town only 18km away, and the coastal town Viareggio is 45km away. All these towns have their own characters and are well worth a visit.

Abetone the skiing resort is 60 km away and is lovely and cool in the summer. You can also visit caves, vineyards, and the town of Collodi which is the birth town of the author Carlo Lorenzin (creator of Pinocchio), with its own Parc, Butterfly Farm and historic early 1600s villa and garden.

Florence 56km and Pisa 36km are both about 40 minutes drive away, or go by train from Pescia. Public transport is cheap, punctual and clean.

Any one village will have a pizza evening or some form of event, every weekend. Lots of restaurants to choose from, food is excellent, Italians take great pride in their food and wine.

The Tuscany / Pistoia Province region

With so many ancient and historical cities, towns and villages to see, we are ideally situated to take advantage of the auto routes (Toll roads) and the meandering roads. Tuscany with its art, history, music, nature and folklore is a great place to visit. You can see sea, mountains and the countryside with its mixture of olive groves, wineries (with tasting available), mouthwatering ice cream parlours, and superb food.

Then there is the chance to go hiking, walking, horse riding, cycling, visit the renowned golf course at Montecatini, or try their spa or just relaxing.

The Pescia area

The property is in the region called Svizzera Pesciatina (Pescia little Switzerland). There are so many villages to explore. Pietrabuona has a paper museum, as well as some interesting castle remains, and is a quaint village with Post Office, restaurants, butchers, grocers and bakery, which also provide take away dishes.

Pescia is our local town. It is a medieval city only 8 minutes from Pietrabuona. Pescia has lovely Piazza Mazzini, the main square, which hosts the Saturday market. Pescia is delightful with its beautiful buildings and little winding back streets and its many beautiful churches and the imposing Cathedral. The little river “Pescia” running through makes this a very pretty market town. From here there are frequent buses and trains to all major places of interest .

Palio Citta di Pescia (Prize of Pescia) is a fair that takes place from Sunday 29th August to Sunday 6th September. On the last day of the fair there is an archery competition between the town's four quarters. There is also a medieval theme and parade which includes flag throwing, drumming and dressing in medieval costumes and which winds its way through the town and finishes in the main Piazza.

There is always something going on in the area.

“Tuscan dream” We will never forget our holiday in Tuscany. Everything you could expect - you will find there. This is a land of delicious food, wonderful wine, amazing landscape, great culture, lovely people and fantastic weather. Every morning we had a breakfest in the garden overlooking beautiful green hills and in the night a glass of wine under the sky full of countless stars. There is so many interesting places around, that two weeks just wasn't enough to see them all. This is a great base to visit Pisa, Florence, Montecatini Alto, Collodi, Vinci and Lucca, our favourite place of all. Geri and Keith are lovely- so friendly and easy going, brilliant hosts! They even never complained about our three noisy boys! Inside the property is everything you will need for your comfy stay. The only downside we have noticed as a family with young children was a lack of any fence in the garden, which was a bit problematic with our energetic baby. Otherwise a great place to enjoy your holiday. Geri and Keith thank you. We will miss you. Our boys want to escape to Tuscany, just as you did and we can't blame them. We wish you all the best! “Wonderful relaxing holiday in Tuscan hills.” This review due to our own individual circumstances, is not a generalisation of what you can expect on holiday here. To explain, we are retired and just wanted to relax, after a hetic 12 months. On booking we explained we were not going to hire a car and would rely on public transport, this we discovered proved no barrier to our excusions. All we had to do was give, the owners Keith & Gerri, 12 hours notice, and they would take us into Pescia for the Train,or Bus Station,( We found the train service went to Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Viareggio, and other destinations, it was comfortable, and cheaper than England, We advise you to park at the station and let the train take the strain, Use your car for local outings to the many villiages, and historic houses, in the area) . Our hosts would return to pick us up, and drive us back to the apartment . Throughout the holiday, inc. collecting & returning to airport in Pisa, they were kindness itself, this came at a cost, but miniscule, compared to a car hire. But we consider if you want complete freedom, you should hire a car. Buses from local viliage, 15mins walk away ,were limited, but often found was Gratis! Our holiday was blessed with good weather, and the apartment was in a fantastic enviroment, which was very relaxing. The accomodation , was home from home and had every facility, for comfort. We wanted for nothing and got everyhing, from our fantastic hosts, especially if we ran out of something, without intruding on our privacy! We did ask them to join us, on a couple of times, for a ice-cream and coffee in the local bars in Pesia, and a chat to locals, who we found very friendly, and helpful. Also prices were very reasonable, and supermarkets opened all day, and had a good variety of English and Italian goods. To summarize, we are delighted to give this review , to a lovely couple, with all the praise they richly deserve. Thank you Susan & Ken Martin. “A Beautiful Getaway in the Hills of Tuscany” I had a great time here during my stay at Great Escape to Tuscany. The area around the apartment is stunning. My stay took place closer to the summer season and high-sloping, rolling Italian hillsides dotted with historically family-owned olive groves envelop the place in a sea of green. There are plenty of small, nearby towns which are nice for a day trip or two. Located at the end of a driveway on the side of one of these hillsides and in the middle of a valley, overlooking the town of Pescia, lies the apartment. The place itself is very nice on the inside, complete with a full kitchen and bathroom and has everything you could need for your stay. And if you get bored with the breathtaking views, it is a short train ride to either Florence or Pisa where you can spend a nice weekend seeing the sights. As much as I can say about how nice the place is, I can say even more about how nice the owners were. I could not have asked more from Keith and Geri. They were very welcoming throughout my vacation, provided me with ample information about the surrounding areas, and were very knowledgeable about local happenings and things to do (which was perfect for the day trips I had planned). Even more, they offered to drive me to and from the local train station so that I could travel with ease! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a beautiful and tranquil location for a nice "Getaway to Tuscany".
