Pescia

The property is in the region called Svizzera Pesciatina (Pescia little Switzerland). There are so many villages to explore. Pietrabuona has a paper museum, as well as some interesting castle remains, and is a quaint village with Post Office, restaurants, butchers, grocers and bakery, which also provide take away dishes.

Pescia is our local town. It is a medieval city only 8 minutes from Pietrabuona. Pescia has lovely Piazza Mazzini, the main square, which hosts the Saturday market. Pescia is delightful with its beautiful buildings and little winding back streets and its many beautiful churches and the imposing Cathedral. The little river “Pescia” running through makes this a very pretty market town. From here there are frequent buses and trains to all major places of interest .

Palio Citta di Pescia (Prize of Pescia) is a fair that takes place from Sunday 29th August to Sunday 6th September. On the last day of the fair there is an archery competition between the town's four quarters. There is also a medieval theme and parade which includes flag throwing, drumming and dressing in medieval costumes and which winds its way through the town and finishes in the main Piazza.

There is always something going on in the area.

"Wonderful base from which to explore Tuscany."

Our hosts Geri and Keith were both very friendly and helpful in every way. The house is beautifully situated overlooking the valley with easy access to the local facilities in Pescia and its railway station (we strongly recommend taking the train to Florence, it's a very relaxing way to visit this lovely city). Pisa, Lucca, Pistoa, Florence, Sienna and a host of smaller little gems are all within a comfortable day's outing, either by car or public transport. Even though the weather was far from perfect while we were there we did enjoy several days and evening sitting on the terrace, reading a book and enjoying the view.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Tuscany did its magic for you. even though the weather was very wet. Thank you again Geri and Keith

"Disgusting and dangerus"

The apartment is loaded with mould and insects (mostly ants and spiders). The ants occupy the garden furniture. So if you are considering to have a nice meal outside you can enjoy having them in your supper. The high location has a nice view but also makes it cold. No heating system in the apartment so a warm sweater and pants is needed in June (~7 degrees colder then the valley below). The mould makes you nauseas and everything you bring in to the apartment smells. The road to the house is 300 meters long made of gravel on the very steep slope with few holes on the side of the road. The garden is neglected with high grass where you drive and park. Stones are scattered which make it easy to trip over.

Why did they not say?
Why did they not ask?

There is no mould

I asked at least 3 times if everything is O.K. Yes was the reply.

First it was pointed out the apartment is for 4. 3 adults and 2 children were in party.
Did not charge extra at time of booking.
It was the end of JUNE, we had fans on.
On arrival I said that I have taken blankets out of ottoman and left extra towels. If anything extra was needed, please ask.

We have electric fires, again removed did not think they would be needed.

Our Farmhouse is stone built dating between 300 to 500 years old. Damp courses were not around then. It is a damp patch on bedroom wall in corner. It has been a really wet winter and spring with torrential rain. It was a hot and humid week with several storms the week this guest stayed.

Mould is not all over apartment.

No ants in apartment.

As for damp smell, the apartment was locked up with no air being let in during the hot and humid days. I did not realise that it was happening at night, if they felt cold. Cooking and 5 people causes a lot of condensation, if no air is circulating.

PS Do not have central heating, no where on our advert does it say we have.

We would have willingly provided extra bedding and electric fires, if asked.

Spiders moved in after we cleaned apartment, . They like to keep dry!!

As for out side we clearly state we are a working farm.
There are no holes in drive.
The drive from main road is maintained for the forestry commission for fire access to ourselves and other woodlands that belong to neighbouring lands. In drought times we have had a bowser deliver water to our tank in car park. Also have lorries, delivery trucks and unfortunately an ambulance for Keith. Other guests have used same drive.

The grass and stone borders on the parking area are what is left after our gravel infill has washed away twice this year. The grass is to stop any erosion occurring until we could infill again. Which is now done.

Ants come alive in stormy weather. We have put ant powder down on terrace, but the rain kept washing it away.
The ant powder was available by dustbin. As children were present left to guests to put down Garden and terrace area for apartment is and was cared for.

"Tuscan dream"

We will never forget our holiday in Tuscany.
Everything you could expect - you will find there. This is a land of delicious food, wonderful wine, amazing landscape, great culture, lovely people and fantastic weather. Every morning we had a breakfest in the garden overlooking beautiful green hills and in the night a glass of wine under the sky full of countless stars.
There is so many interesting places around, that two weeks just wasn't enough to see them all. This is a great base to visit Pisa, Florence, Montecatini Alto, Collodi, Vinci and Lucca, our favourite place of all.
Geri and Keith are lovely- so friendly and easy going, brilliant hosts! They even never complained about our three noisy boys!
Inside the property is everything you will need for your comfy stay. The only downside we have noticed as a family with young children was a lack of any fence in the garden, which was a bit problematic with our energetic baby. Otherwise a great place to enjoy your holiday.
Geri and Keith thank you. We will miss you. Our boys want to escape to Tuscany, just as you did and we can't blame them. We wish you all the best!

Thank you for your review.
There is no cure for falling in love with Tuscany.

"Wonderful relaxing holiday in Tuscan hills."

This review due to our own individual circumstances, is not a generalisation of what you can expect on holiday here.
To explain, we are retired and just wanted to relax, after a hetic 12 months. On booking we explained we were not going to hire a car and would rely on public transport, this we discovered proved no barrier to our excusions. All we had to do was give, the owners Keith & Gerri, 12 hours notice, and they would take us into Pescia for the Train,or Bus Station,( We found the train service went to Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Viareggio, and other destinations, it was comfortable, and cheaper than England, We advise you to park at the station and let the train take the strain, Use your car for local outings to the many villiages, and historic houses, in the area) . Our hosts would return to pick us up, and drive us back to the apartment .
Throughout the holiday, inc. collecting & returning to airport in Pisa, they were kindness itself, this came at a cost, but miniscule, compared to a car hire. But we consider if you want complete freedom, you should hire a car. Buses from local viliage, 15mins walk away ,were limited, but often found was Gratis!
Our holiday was blessed with good weather, and the apartment was in a fantastic enviroment, which was very relaxing. The accomodation , was home from home and had every facility, for comfort. We wanted for nothing and got everyhing, from our fantastic hosts, especially if we ran out of something, without intruding on our privacy!
We did ask them to join us, on a couple of times, for a ice-cream and coffee in the local bars in Pesia, and a chat to locals, who we found very friendly, and helpful. Also prices were very reasonable, and supermarkets opened all day, and had a good variety of English and Italian goods.
To summarize, we are delighted to give this review , to a lovely couple, with all the praise they richly deserve.
Thank you Susan & Ken Martin.

Dear Sue and Ken,
Thanks so much for writing this reviews.
We are so glad that you were able to relax and do the sightseeing.
We enjoyed our ice cream treats in Pescia. We missed you when you had gone home. 14 days just flew by.

You loved Tuscany so much and it was great to relive that feeling again through your eyes.
Thanks again,
See you soon.

"A Beautiful Getaway in the Hills of Tuscany"

I had a great time here during my stay at Great Escape to Tuscany. The area around the apartment is stunning. My stay took place closer to the summer season and high-sloping, rolling Italian hillsides dotted with historically family-owned olive groves envelop the place in a sea of green. There are plenty of small, nearby towns which are nice for a day trip or two. Located at the end of a driveway on the side of one of these hillsides and in the middle of a valley, overlooking the town of Pescia, lies the apartment. The place itself is very nice on the inside, complete with a full kitchen and bathroom and has everything you could need for your stay. And if you get bored with the breathtaking views, it is a short train ride to either Florence or Pisa where you can spend a nice weekend seeing the sights.

As much as I can say about how nice the place is, I can say even more about how nice the owners were. I could not have asked more from Keith and Geri. They were very welcoming throughout my vacation, provided me with ample information about the surrounding areas, and were very knowledgeable about local happenings and things to do (which was perfect for the day trips I had planned). Even more, they offered to drive me to and from the local train station so that I could travel with ease!

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a beautiful and tranquil location for a nice "Getaway to Tuscany".

Thanks for writing this review,
