The Tuscany region

From the Romans to the Renaissance, Tuscany is possibly the greatest work of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture at the Uffizzi in Florence to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.

Visitors to Tuscany come for many reasons. Many come in search of the beautiful Italian language and culture, others to explore the extraordinary countryside. Gourmets and wine buffs descend on Tuscany to enjoy the simple yet wonderful cuisine and wine. Walkers enjoy the mountain paths, cyclists the rolling hills, summer vacationers the sea coast and islands.

There is a lot to see and do in Tuscany, the difficulty is really where to start. Most should start with Florence, then continue on to Siena, Lucca and Pisa.

Tuscany enjoys a lovely mediteranian climate ranging from around 10 degrees in the winter to around 30 degrees in the summer.

Pescia / Vellano area

The characteristic form of Pescia seems to date back as far as the year 1000. Various wars due to its agricultural importance meant the city was nearly destroyed in 1281. Although Pescia's thrived production of paper and silk are today in decline, the horticultural industry continues to expand and the city is renowned for its flowers and horticulture. You will see the great Florentine door with its baroque friezes and the coat of arms of the Medici family built in honour of Gian Gastono. Pescia is a great base to sightsee through the likes of Montecatini, Siena, Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Montelcino and the many wineries, local villages and restaurants that Italy has to offer. Montecatini Terme, a renowned spa town has some of the bet spa facilities around including underground grotto spas as well as many treatment facilities.

Other local activities include walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golfing, mountain biking, mountaineering and roller blading.
