The Pescia / Vellano area
The city of Pescia takes its name after the river which divides it in two parts and which makes it cool and pleasant for visits especially during the spring and summer. The Medici family was very important for this city. Leone X - Medici's Pope - erected its first parish in 1519 and then the same family improved its economy. The main economy in the past was from paper making, leather and silk were their main sources. Today Pescia lives on flower cultivation and tourism. A beautifully decorated top floor of the owners home, with it's own entrance and terrace for sitting out. Only a short amble to the village where we ate both well and cheaply at very family friendly small restaurants. Set in the mountains we had spectacular views but were only 15 minutes from an amazing supermarket with a fantastic fruit and vegetable selection. Indeed, we went there everyday on our way back from trips out as it was conveniently en route! The hosts were lovely and helpful when needed but discreet when not -truly a lovely venue and we for sure would love to go back. Response: Dear Lorraine and family, It was with great pleasure that I read your Review. Yes I agree what fantastic tasty, fresh and inexpensive food there is in Italy. It is a pleasure to go down to the Piazza Mazzini on Saturday mornings and dare I say it, the supermarket to buy all those new and full-flavoured ingredients. We hope to see you again and many thanks for your gracious Review. Kind regards, Darren |
