About the home

Surrounded by trees, the villa Il Fontanile stands in extensive landscaped grounds which blend into the olive groves and fields of the estate. Villa Il Fontanile lies at the heart of a 400 acre estate which stretches along the Maremma coast, with private access to a nearby beach (3km).

Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the villa was fully restored and divided into 4 ample rental apartments in 1998. The house and garden have a relaxed, informal atmosphere, and a serenity which will immediately make you feel at ease.

The interior decoration is light, friendly and comfortable. The living rooms have open fire places and comfortable upholstery. The bedrooms are kept in a simple and friendly style. The mattresses are on excellent quality.

The private garden is equipped with a table and chairs. Hidden from the house by rose and lavender bushes is the 18 x 6 m. swimming pool with an adjoining paddling pool.

Linens - Bedlinen, a set of 3 towels per person, kitchen towels.
Should you have rented your accommodation for more than 1 week the house will be cleaned on Saturdays and the linen will be changed.

Kitchen - In the house you will find salt, pepper, sugar, oil and vinegar.

Soaps and detergents - washing up liquid and new sponge, dishwasher detergent, soap powder for the washing machine, a soap bar in every bathroom, toilet paper, detergent for the bathrooms are provided.

Children - A children’s bed and high chair can be provided. A Children's playground with a small house, a slide and 2 swings, a ping pong table are available.

Conditions

Payment - 50% of the rent is to be paid at the moment of booking. The remaining 50% is due 6 weeks upon arrival.

Upon arrival guests are required to leave a security deposit of EUR 250,00.

The Lazio region

Maremma, a lesser known and therefore all the more captivating part of Tuscany extending south towards Latium. Once unhealthy because of the many marshes, Maremma was drained and re-populated with people coming from other Italian regions, notably from Veneto.

Today the area is provided with significant natural and environmental resources, where ancient traditions have survived and Tuscan culture is preserved. The Natural Park of the Maremma, traditionally populated by the butteri, cattle-breeders who used horses until recently, with a distinctive style of saddle.

The territory of Maremma is rich in nuances - long stretches of fully equipped beaches of fine sand accompanied by lush pine forests, tiny coves with sweet sounding names and crystal-clear water, deserted beaches against natural havens, uncontaminated islands in an enchanted sea, villages and castles that are austere and festive at the same time, gentle landscapes brimming with history and natural wonders.

Villa Il Fontanile is located roughly halfway between Rome and Grosseto. The property is surrounded by the cultural landmarks of Tarquinia, Tuscania, Orbetello and Viterbo, which all are more or less half an hour’s drive away.

The Maremma offers a lot of different places where you can spend your holiday,starting from the sea until to arrive to mountains and hills.

Things to do :
The beach of fine sand stretches along the coast. The water is clean and usually warm enough to swim in
from mid May to October.

Visiting Monte Argentario among the most famous spots in Maremma and all of Tuscany.
Hiring a boat in Porto Santo Stefano and visiting the islands Giglio and Giannutri off the Tuscan coast.
National Park “Parco dell’Uccellina”, also known as the „Parco Regionale della Maremma“. It is a regional park of rare beauty with walks through high forests towards the coast.

Talamone, a picturesque and solitary fishing village situated on a rocky promontory, is built around a 15th century citadel from which there are spectacular views of the coast and islands.
Tarquinia and Tuscania boast world wide famous archeological excavations which should not be missed.
“Tagliata Etrusca” a canal cut in the rock near the Spacco della Regina, a deep and mysterious cavern which seems almost mythological.

Tuscany famous hot springs of Saturnia at one hours drive, is the most spectacular, with hot waterfalls in the middle of nature, open to everyone.

The Tarot-Garden of the artist Niki de Saint-Phalle (1930 – 2002). The famous French artist has built her „Jardin des Tarots“, twenty two giant sculptures in ceramic and coloured glass inspired by the figures of the magic tarot cards. Wine and Food the area has many appealing restaurants and trattoria's of which you will find a list in the house.

Train: the next train station is at Montalto di Castro, which is at distance of 15 minutes by car from the
estate.

A trip Montalto to Rome takes a bit over 1 hour. Trains to and from Rome leave regularly by the
