Home description
Situated just 5 min walk from the sleepy village of Serramonacesca right on the edge of the National Park (della Majella) this converted farmhouse offers tranquility and escapism. Relax on the large terrace with the sun all day and take in the amazing views, walk through our olive grove down to a small river on the edge of our property and through the surrounding countryside. There is much to do just a short drive away, during both the Summer and Winter, from the wonderful sandy Italian beeches on the Adriatic, relax in the natural hot springs in the hills or go skiiing in the mountains. Sleeps 7 comfortably but can take up to 13 if both Poolhouse and Log Cabin (hired separately) is used. The farmhouse is not just a "Buy to Let" but has been furnished as our house to retire to.
We have just added two log cabins, the Poolhouse that can be used as a separate bedroom with full en suite to the farm, and a larger Log Cabin on extremity of our land giving complete privacy both to people in the farmhouse and also the cabin. The cabin has a separate bathroom, kitchen and cathedral lounge with a 2m terrace, The bedroom (sleeps 2-4) is in apex of roof. The Log Cabin enjoys astounding views of village and surrounding mountains. Not possible to park car adjacent to cabin, requires a short walk up a hill. Log Cabin available to rent separately& is not included in pricing. For further info see website exclusivehomesrental. All details on website here relate to the farmhouse only.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region
Serramonacesca is roughly on the same latitude as Rome, so has good weather all year round, but by end of September when the sun goes down, the air gets a little chilly as we are about 900 ft up. When people think of Italy they often think of Toscana (Tuscany) but few have discovered the amazing, rugged countryside of Abruzzo - round every corner or mountain is a different terrain. Some of the best views in Italy - in my view much better than Tuscany, and the sandy beaches are fantastic - and safe..
Pescara area
Serramoncesca is ideally situated for the weather, for totally quiet holidays (here) or the night life (Pescara, Chieti etc. only a few minutes by car), for walking/bike holidays, for beach holidays for skiing holidays or just relax in our spacious grounds or on the terrace, good for both summer and winter (not the terrace!) holidays. The nearby mountain is 2700 metres and this region was a extra practise area for the recent Turin (Torino) winter Olympics. Chair lift open in summer as well as winter. There are two local restaurants very good, very cheap. Two people can eat in the La Cascina for 22 euros - that includes the wine and water! And if you fancy a visit to Rome - it is only 1.5 hours by car - so a good day trip if you leave early!
Our house is situated right on the edge of the National Park. There are numerous picturesque villages around. From our land one can walk along the river to the sea at Pescara (if you are feeling really energetic!) but 10 minutes walk from Serramonacesa is a leafy glade where one can walk alongside a small river with some wonderful small waterfalls - and in the summer one can even get wet under them!! Lovely for picnics. Serramonacesca has two well equipped village shops, two bars , a doctor and pharmacy.. A car is really necessary, but a bus leaves the village every hour for surrounding areas. About 30 minute drive is a superb gorge one can walk through (providing you have a head for heights) again with magnificent views. Tennis is available together with basketball/netball/5aside football pitch
How to get there
Fly to Pescara (RyanAir) 25 min from airport or to Rome under 2 hrs Local buses run every hour All major car hire companies at airports Local cheap taxis available

Further details outdoors: The house is totally secluded just 5 min. from the sleepy village of Serramonacesca. If the sun does get too hot then the large Open Room offers further choice with some beautiful Italian antique furniture. The small river is good for fishing according to the locals. Guestbook for Olive Grove Farm
"This farmhouse gave us the tranquillity and escapism we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of life at home. We hired a car at the airport for the week and drove up into the mountains one day and to the beach another day. The local restaurants represented real value for money, but we preferred barbecues on the terrace overlooking the fantastic views. A really relaxing holiday!" Mr and Mrs Hopwood
"The local village is typically Italian, friendly and unspoilt. We enjoyed lovely walks across the surrounding countryside, national park and mountains - and just sitting on the terrace with a drink! The house is well equipped and comfortable and gave us everything we needed, included stunning views. Thank you." Mr and Mrs Rodgers.
We are having a very relaxing time and thoroughly enjoying the villa. What a great place! Just what we needed John Kate & Family (Hutchings)
