Home description

The house is located in a small hamlet named Orni, near the hill top village of Canosa Sannita and the town of Tollo. The area is perfect for those who want to be away from it all, and those who want to be within a few minutes drive of townlife. Turquoise waters and sandy beaches are a feature of this part of the Adriatic coast with the nearest beach just 20 minutes drive to the secluded cove at Lido Riccio. Other resorts such as the charming Francavilla al Mare are just a short drive away.
Yet within 40 minutes you can be in the mountains of the Maiella, soaking up the cool mountain air and walking mountain pathways and exploring gorges and caves.

In contrast, Aqualand at Vasto is just a 40 minute drive, and just 20 minutes away you will find the Miglianico golf course, designed by Ronald Kirby, the famous American golf architect, the course is the first built in the Abruzzo region and is open year round.

Skiing is available at Passo Lanciano, within a 50 minute drive. With 9 skilifts, 10 ski runs and a good ski school, it is ideal for beginners and professionals alike.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region

Abruzzo is described as the garden of Europe, a land of parks, the green lungs of central Italy. A protected paradise of beaches, hills, woods and mountains. Abruzzo boasts an area of protected territory that has no equal in the rest of Europe. It has the highest peak in the Apennines, the Corno Grande (2,914m) and also the southern most glacier in Europe.
The mountain ranges of the Gran Sasso and the Maiella, both of which are visible from the house, have a huge amount of wildlife including brown bears, wolves, deer, boar, chamois to name but a few. There are also vultures and many eagles. Golden eagles are a common sight. There are numerous picnic areas including barbecues so you can choose the ideal spot for a bit of lunch.
The golden sand coast stretches for mile after mile with many beautiful beaches to choose from, Lido di Riccio, Francavilla, Pescara, Montesilvano, etc., catering for everyone's taste. From private beaches where you can hire parasols and sun beds and have shower and toilet facilities, to vast public beaches giving you as much or as little privacy as you like. The sand slopes gently into the sea, making bathing very safe, even for the youngest child.
Skiing is usually available between December and April, with a variety of different mountains to choose from in this area. The closest is Passo Lanciano which has a variety of runs and activities for all ages, skis and sledges can be rented on a daily basis.

Pescara area

July and August mark the start of the festival season, with all of the local towns having their own celebrations, often including live bands, outdoor markets and fireworks. Two of the biggest and most beautiful fireworks exhibitions are at Pescara and Francavilla al Mare, these beat the Sydney Harbour new year fireworks into a cocked hat. Pescara Marina is one of the largest harbours on the Adriatic coast, and boat hire and sailing lessons are available, as well as a vibrant shopping arcade, bars and restaurants. All along the Adriatic coast, as well as in the towns, excellent restaurants are available, from specialist fish restaurants to restaurants offering specialities of the region and pizza baked in wood fired ovens.
All year round the area offers dramatic scenery for walking, museums and art galleries to visit as well as interesting churches. Winter brings the snow to the mountains, which offer breathtakingly beautiful scenery as well as the fun of winter sports.
