The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region
Although rich in natural beauty and history, Abruzzo is only just starting to be discovered by mass tourism. Abruzzo's wealth of castles and medieval towns, especially near the town of L'Aquila has earned it in some quarters the nickname of 'Abruzzoshire', by analogy with the 'Chiantishire' nickname sometimes used to refer to the Chianti area of Tuscany. Mountain Climbing. The Gran Sasso massif sports the Italian peninsula’s highest peak, Corno Grande, and Europe’s southernmost glacier, Il Calderone. Abruzzo’s lesser known peaks, especially the gentler slopes of the Majella, offer climbers the opportunity to hike and climb in solitude. Beach Resorts. Abruzzo’s 129 km. long sandy coastline is home to a many popular beach resorts. Abruzzo holds some of Italy's best-preserved medieval and Renaissance hill towns. With one of the best italian wines and delicious kitchen (fresh seafood and favolouse meat from mountains). Pescara is full of beach disco and party places.

In all the citys arond Francavilla in the summer time is possible to eat typical food in popular partys, the name of this partys is "sagre". There is "wine sagra", "pizza sagra", "fish sagra" and many many more. Every July Pescara holds an International Jazz Festival. The Pescara and the Francavilla al Mare beaches, offer high level accommodation, night-clubs, and in Pescara itself, even a modern marina. Pescara Marina is one of the largest harbours on the Adriatic coast, a “European Blue Flag” marina from 1990 to 2003. A higly regarded international acclaim awarded by the Fee and Fee Environments to beaches and marinas capables of guaranteeing a “premier quality” system: high-quality services for marina users; high quality initiatives to help the disable; high-quality concern for the marina environment. Anyone docking at Pescara Marina will find state-of-the-art amenities and services; assistance from capable staff; vibrant shopping arcade, bars and restaurants, book-store, fully equipped areas, yachting club, charter services, bicycle and car hire along with the most accomodating facilities for yacht owners. Visitors can also admire the scenery whilst relaxing in the first-class surroundings. Every nuance has been conceived to make your stay at the yacht haven enjoyable and comfortable. To the south the scenery changes radically: from Ortona to Vasto and as far as S. Salvo, sloping shores surrounded by the rich Mediterranean vegetation appear on the coastline. They too, are well equipped for a pleasant holiday. The nostalgic fishing past emerges between S. Vito and Fossacesia, where the travocchi, singular fishing huts built on piles, are still today used by the local fishermen. Pescara has been set to host the XVI Mediterranean Games in 2009, having defeated Rijeka, Croatia and Patras, Greece for the privilege.
