"Casa Rosa" is a lovely old Italian country house set in a beautifully tranquil and scenic position in private grounds of an acre of olive groves, overlooking both the Apennine and Maieila mountains, about a mile from the pretty hill village of Manoppello.

Downstairs: There is a large fully fitted pine kitchen, (with terrific views of the Gan Sasso from its window) together with a large pine dinging table, and a large open fireplace. Through an archway and down a couple of steps is a large, comfortable and well furnished living room. There are two sets of patio doors, each with views of different mountain ranges, leading out onto the terrace. Upstairs: There are three double bedrooms (two large and one small) and a family bathroom with shower.

Outside: There is a large terrace around the house with beautiful views of the mountains with plenty of space for families to relax in the sun, maybe read a book or simply take a nap in the shade. The olives groves are great for a stroll to soak up the scenery.

Casa Rosa offers something for everyone. From lazing around the house, time at the beach, exploring local markets, arts, music, folk and food festivals, and for the more active, mountain climbing, hiking and biking, hill walking, horse riding, golf and canoeing.

The Marche/Abruzzo region

Situated in the central belt of Italy, the Abruzzo region stretches from its mountainous eastern border, just 50 miles away from Rome, across to its western coastal border with the Adriatic ocean. Abruzzo is one of the least populated and most unspoilt and beautiful regions in the country, referred to as "The hidden park of Italy"

With three National Parks, a Regional Park and another 30 specially protected areas of natural beauty, more than a third of Abruzzo's territory is under environmental protection. it is one of Europe's greenest and most protected regions and a largely undiscovered treasure of mountains, forests, ancient medieval and renaissance towns, hillside villages, together with miles of golden beaches, just waiting to be explored.

Abruzzo is equally rich in wildlife with hares, foxes, wild boar, deer, golden eagles and in the most mountainous areas, Apennine wolf and Mascia Bear all benefitting from the wild and unspoilt countryside.

By way of contrast, the largest city in the region, Pescara is a large, busy and vibrant place to visit with its many shops, bars, restaurants and museums.

For the ultimate "day out" why not visit Rome, one of the greatest cities in the world, which is only a 2 hour drive away from Casa Rosa, and a truly magical place to visit.

Pescara

The local village of Manoppello, a short 5 minute drive away from Casa Rosa, is a pretty hillside village with several shops, bars and restaurants. Many of the local restaurants are unspoilt and family run offering traditional rustic Abruzzo cuisine and a warm welcome. Most have no printed menu with the daily choice of meals dependent on what they have decided to cook that day.

There are markets in the village each Friday and Sunday mornings that sell locally produced fruit, vegetables, cheeses and meats. There is also a larger local supermarket available which is a 10 minute drive away in the nearby village of Scarfa.

Manoppello is also home of the Santo Volto, "The Sanctuary of the Holy Face" which has been the destination of pilgrims from around the world for over 400 years. There are many other ancient churches worth visiting in the local region.

Passo Lanciano, a popular ski resort is a very scenic 20 minute drive away. The surrounding countryside offers a wide range of hill walking and mountain trekking routes during spring, summer and autumn. The views from the peaks are truly spectacular.

The Adriatic coast is a 30 minute drive away. The many miles of beautiful beaches have great facilities and offer a range of water and beach sports. There are also many bars, cafes and restaurants offering great food, right on the beach to choose from.
