Home description
A modern apartment in the medieval village of Castello delle Forme, set in the middle of picturesque and traditional Umbrian agricultural landscape. The 2-bedroom apartment has stunning views of the surrounding countryside, sunflower fields, vineyards and olive groves, and the town of Deruta and the city of Perugia. The apartment is furnished in a contemporary style with all mod cons, offers a balcony and bbq for alfresco dining and a shared pool. There is plentiful parking in front of the apartments and also a designated garage. It is the perfect spot to take a relaxing holiday and is an ideal base to explore all that Umbria and Tuscany has to offer. Within easy distance are the stunning cities/towns of Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Gubbio and Todi. All of which are no more that an hours drive , Perugia itself is a 20-minute drive. Florence and Rome are also close enough for a day trip and Lake Trasimeno is also a popular nearby tourist spot.

The Umbria region
Umbria is the heart of Italy, the only region that neither borders the sea or another country. It is Italy's most rural region with beautiful rolling hills, sunflower fields, olive groves and vineyards. The countryside is dotted with atmospheric medieval villages, towns and cities.
Umbria hosts more festivals than any other region of Italy including Perugia's Jazz and Chocolate festivals. There is also plentiful outdoor activities such as walking, hiking and cycling.
Unbria has a typically Mediterranean climate. Winter lows of about 5-10 degrees and summertime highs in the 30's.
Perugia / Castello delle Forme area
Castello Delle Forme is an ideal base to explore the delights of Umbria and Tuscany. Local restaurants offer fine dining or a local family run experience. There are nearbyl vineyards, which offer tours and tastings.
Perugia is a beautiful medieval city with a stunning central piazza and architecture; it also offers a wide array of museums, churches and galleries. It is also a modern university town with an international and cosmopolitan feel. Perugia offers many festivals. Some of the most famous are the Jazz festival which takes place in July and the October Chocolate festival. There is a great range of Italian and international brands for the fashion lover.
Perugia offers a huge number of bars and restaurants ranging from top end restaurants offering haute cuisine to good value family run pizzerias. All offer delicious fresh and locally sourced ingredients. There are also many bars and gelaterias.
Deruta is a charming typically Italian town, which specialises in ceramics and has an excellent traditional restaurant which serves a typically Umbrian set menu.
Assisi is a beautiful world heritage site, which has hardly changed since the time of it's most famous resident, St Francis. The town offers a multitude of historical and spiritual places of interest.
Umbria is landlocked so the nearest beaches are on either coast about a 2-hour journey away. Lake Trasimeno is Italy's largest natural, non-Alpine lake. It is an idyllic place with beaches and many walking trials. There are several towns on the lakes shores which make a pleasant lunchtime stop or afternoon stroll.
Todi is one of the originators of the slow city and food movement. The town square is one of the most famous in Italy. This beautiful place is well worth a visit.
Florence and Rome are both situated about 2-hours away, making a perfect day trip.
How to get there
Ryan air fly into Perugia airport from Stanstead on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday mornings at 07:30am. Return flights are at 11:25am on the same days. Due to the early start of the outbound flight its worth checking out the hotel deals at Stanstead as they mostly include 8 or 15 days parking and mean a couple of extra hours in bed!
Airlines also fly to Florence, Pisa and Rome all of which are about 2 hours drive from Perugia.
Car necessary (Ryan air often offer deals with Hertz). Hertz, Avis and Auto Europe are all available at Perugia airport.
Travelling from Perugia airport to the apartments at Castello Delle Forme takes about 30 minutes :
Turn right out of the airport car park (sign posted Perugia) At the T junction, turn left (sign posted Perugia, A1 Rome) Drive through Collestrada Pass over the railway bridge and bear right Join the E45 (approximately 2km from the airport) Move straight over into the left hand lane (sign posted Rome A1). (The Collestrada shopping complex is on your right and can be a good stop to shop for basics as there is a large supermarket there but please note its not open on Sundays. When leaving the complex follow the exit signs to Rome) Continue on the E45, passing the distinctive cylindrical Park Hotel on your left Follow signs to Deruta central (not Deruta nord), turn off at the Deruta central exit (approximately 9km from airport). Turn right and continue for approximately 2km passing over the River Tevere into Fanciullata where the road bears to the right to Perugia At this point turn left (sign posted Marsciano) and continue over railway crossing When you reach the T junction turn left (sign posted Le Cerequelle Pizzeria Continue straight along for approximately 2km, turn right (sign posted Castello Delle Forme) Follow the windy road up to the top of the hill, turn right (sign posted towards S. Enea The apartments are in front of you, the second driveway on the right.
The first floor flat (1 double, 1 single) is 2nd door from the right.
To open both the entrance door and flat front doors turn the keys to the left.

Further details indoors: This is a spacious and contempory apartment, ideal for a couple or a couple with one child. It has central heating and air conditioning. The lounge has a sofa and arm chair. The kitchen is fully equipped and can seat 4. Towels and bedding are provided free of charge but please bring pool towels.
We own another 2 bedroom apartment on the top floor so we can accommodate larger groups or may be available if this aparment is booked.
Further details outdoors: The balcony offers alfresco dining and stunning views, there is a bbq provided. The shared pool tends to be very quiet as most of our neighbours are Italian residents. There are sun beds stored in the apartments garage. There is parking in front of the apartments and a garage space for secure parking.
The view overlooks Italian countryside, but the centre of the village is only a short walk away and has a small cafe. Only 1.5K away is San Valentino which has a cafe/bar, pizzeria, restaurant, children's park, petrol station, pharmacy and supermarket

Conditions
Ryan Air fly into Perugia on Wednesday, Saturday and Sundays making it an ideal short break destination. Short breaks only available outside peak booking times. There is a discount available on bookings of 2-weeks. Smoking is only permitted outside on the balcony. £250 deposit is required to secure the booking, returnable after check out and return of keys. Full payment is required 6 weeks prior to occupation of the property. Cancellation policy: in event of cancellation within 6 weeks of the arrival date, 50% of the payment is non-refundable, 50% is returnable.
