About the home

Oliveto country house has been recently restored to welcome in perfect comfort those wishing to visit the beautiful sights of Umbria and at the same time spending some time in touch with nature.

Situated on the outskirts of the castle walls of the hill top village of Castello delle Forme, the house is just 20 mins drive away from the market town of Marsciano and 30 mins drive from the regions medieval capital Perugia.

Set within its own oil poducing olive grove, giving way to stunning panoramic views of the Tiber valley from the sun terrace, Oliveto is perfectly situated to explore the area or relax and enjoy the hilly green landscape. Assisi, Orvieto Todi and Lake Trasimeno are all accessible within 1 hour of the house.

Two double rooms, one en suite and a twin room sleeps six comfortably. A Master bathroom, sitting room with log burning stove,terracotta floors through-out, stone arch features and well equipped kitchen ensures a stress free stay.

Parking is available in the communal car park next to the church, which is accessible from the rear of the property - a very short walk.

NEW FOR 2010 - The extended upper and lower terraces - a larger terrace to enjoy the view of the tiber valley, makes way to a lower terraceand access into the olive grove - in which there are scattered seats to enjoy teh shade of the trees and serenity of the grove in the evening.

The Umbria region

Umbria is a region of Central Italy, bordered by Tuscany to the west, the Marche to the east, Lazio to the south and Emilia Romagna to the North. This region is mostly hilly or mountainous, and described as the 'Green heart of Italy' as so much of It's landscape is luscious benefiting from the banks of the Tiber River and valley.

With rolling green expanses of olive grove and vineyard, woods of beech, oak and pine and craggy mountains, it earns its name, but has some lovely towns, and is famous for its hill towns. Completely landlocked, Umbria has beaches on the expansive Lake (Lago) Trasimeno in the north of the region. Towns and villages in Umbria include Perugia, Terni, Spoleto, Assisi, Gubbio, Orvieto, Spello, Todi, Narni, Montefaclo and Foligno.

The Perugia / Castello delle Forme area

Perugia retains a fine medieval centre, access to the Palace and centre via sets of escalators ascending through the Cattacombs of the original City. The city is Vibrant, and enjoys a rather buzzing Umbrian style - The large student population considerably adds to the cosmopolitan nature, as does the summer Umbria Jazz festival, held in July every year.

Castello delle Forme is a hill top village half an hours drive from Perugia. Overlooking the magnificent Tiber valley with views of Deruta and Torgiano, it's a walled castle village with bell tower and newly restored ancinet church. Fantsatic restaurants are reached only ten minutes away, and bars and a pizzeria (ready Summer 08) all in walking distances from the property.

“Amazing view!” We spent a lovely week here in June although the weather was mixed it meant we got out and saw Perugia, Todi, Assisi and Lake Trasimeno. We spent lovely evenings having BBQS and enjoying that stunning view. Great for familys or groups of friends with a nice bar 2mins walk away.

We stayed here at Easter and had a lovely time - the weather was changeable but we did manage a few lunches on the terrace. The house is very comfortable and has everything you need for a great holiday, we'll definitely be back. Cecil and Wendy Rowe (Crewkerne, Somerset)
