The Umbria region
Perugia is the main town in Umbria. Umbria region is right in the middle of the pennnisula, half way between Florence and Rome. Green hills and large woods are a typical landscape of the region.
Umbria has a lot of natural and historical attractions. Middle age towns (Assisi, Foligno, Spello, Todi, Gubbio), national parks and a beautiful lake (Lago Trasimeno) with three small islands which can be reached by boat.
Perugia is a middle age and renaissance town with many cultural sites to vistit, including some archeological ruins of the Etruscan period. The old Etruscan walls and the original main entrance (Etruscan arch) are still visible very close to the apartment.
Perugia is famous for a Jazz Festival (July) and for a choccolate fair (October) and for hand made ceramics, nice wine and traditional food. A small market place selling ceramics runs on tuesdays and saturdays on the Dome stairs (200 mt. from the apartment).
A flea market runs the last Sunday of every month.
There is a coach station from the town centre from were all main cultural sites of the region can be reached (Assisi 30 min trip, Gubbio 1hr trip, Todi 1hr trip, Trasimeno lake 40min. trip).
A mini metro connects the town centre with the railwaystation.
Perugia has cold winters (0-15 C) occasionally with snow, cool springs and autumns (15-24 C) and warm summers (25-35 C).
