Further details indoors:
The palazzo was restored and opened in 2008. There are many stone walls with rustic beamed ceilings and complemented by beautiful Mission style furnishings . The rooms are spacious, the kitchen (with marble counters) has everything you will need to prepare full meals, the beds are comfortable with beautiful linens and soft towels, and the bathroom has a full tub/show combination. From the windows the entire Spoleto Valley opens ups with Assisi, Mount Subasio, and the Apennines in the distance. Sunrises are breathtakingly beautiful. The apartment exudes comfort.
Further details outdoors:
There are several terraces for guest use. Meals are served on the garden terrace off the palazzo's main kitchen. We are located in the historic center of town only two blocks from the main piazza — the center of activity in town — where you can enjoy a cappuccino at the bar bar or delicious Umbrian fare at the osteria. There you will also find our town museum (with a lovely Perugino), two churches, the bank (with ATM) and post office.

Enquire nowThe Umbria region
Umbria, known as the 'Green Heart' of Italy, is less discovered than Tuscany but equally as beautiful. The pace here is slower, the cultural activities varied, the art spectacular, and the wine and food unsurpassed. And we are able to share our extraordinary heritage without the crush of tourists found elsewhere. You'll be pleased with the ease with which you can get around to the many small towns to discover treasures from Etruscan tombs, Roman ruins, Medieval towns, Renaissance masterpieces, and so much more.
Known for our wine, and in particular the wonderful Sagrantinos and passitos, Umbria boasts 100s of wineries offering wine tastings upon appointment or join us at the end of May for Cantine Aperte when almost all are open to the public.
Did I mention the extraordinary cuisine? Our sausages - both fresh and cured - will set a new standard for you. The plain town of Norcia is famous for meats, cheeses, and truffles. While strolling the streets, the fragrance hits you even before you enter the shops. And our delicious olive oils, often slightly picante, are unlike others you've tasted. You'll have to come and sample all of it for yourself.
From large towns with glorious works of art — by Perugino, Pinturicchio, Giotto, Luca Signorelli, Benozzo Gozzoli and others — to soaring architecture — from the amazing duomo of Orvieto to the Romanesque churches of Bevagna. And wonderful hill towns to be explored and spectacular views all along the way.
For incredible natural beauty, there are the nearby Sibilini Mountains and the amazing Piano Grande and, in nearby le Marche, the Frassati Caves. The hills and plains are filled with color — from the yellow broom in April to May's poppies, to July and August's fields of sunflowers — making this a photographer's dream destination.
The Perugia / Bettona area
Bettona is a small hill town, originally an Etruscan settlement, is completely surrounded by walls — both Etruscan and medieval. Located within 15 kilometers of both Perugia and Assisi and convenient to the highways that ring Umbria. The Perugia/Assisi airport (now called San Francesco) is serviced by RyanAir and only 25 minutes away.
Bettona is a remarkably tranquil spot with about 350 people living within the walls and about 3500 residents in the Comune (comprised of 4 'frazione'). A morning walk around the walls is a wonderful way to start the day here, followed by a cappuccino and dolce in the bar in the main piazza, and then off for an excursion to one of the many small towns nearby.
There are two restaurants in town, a small archeological and painting museum (a lovely Perugino), two churches, and an oratory with 14th century frescoes.
Guests always comment on how taken they are with the Bettona's charm.

| Airport: | MAJOR: Rome Fiumicino; LOCAL: Perugia/Assisi |
| Railway: | Assisi: 15 km |
The closest large airport is Rome's Fiumicino. There is also the small international airport (served by RyanAir) of Perugia/Assisi (now San Francesco). It is about 25 minutes away.
TRAIN: It is easy to take a train from the airport. You will need to transfer in Rome for a train to Assisi. Or, you can pick up a rental car at Perugia or Foligno.
CAR: Most guests rent a car and drive to me.
Head in the direction of Rome and the road will turn into the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare), which is a ring road around Rome. You are looking for the A1 to Firenze (Florence). Exit at uscita 10, but 8, 9, and 10 all have the same exit. Keep heading for Firenze / A1 and get a ticket. This much should have taken you about 40 minutes.
Once on the A1 you drive for about 25 minutes and exit at ORTE. Go to the lane with the picture of someone handing the driver something and your life will be easier. (Toll is 3.80euro) Once out the gate go to your right and follow the signs for Perugia.
You will be heading basically east for about 20 minutes before you see the signs for Perugia. Follow signs to Perugia/Cesena and you will end up on the E45. Stay on the E45 for about 40 minutes more and exit at PONTE NUOVO (right after DERUTA). (You will notice the sign for Deruta Nord lists BETTONA but the next exit is a little closer.
Come off the exit ramp and go to your right, then go over the bridge. After the bridge, the road will make a sharp right but you want to make a left onto the little street between the bar and the brick church. You’ll be on this road for a couple kilometers until you come to a T-stop. Go right toward Bettona. Almost there. Follow this a few kilometers. Pass through Signoria until you see the hill of Bettona with its church towers. The road will bend to the left (at Colle) and you will want to go straight up the hill and, after lots of bends in the road, you eventually will come to the town. Follow the walls around to the left until you see the front gate.
Once inside the gate, take the road on the left and come up to the main piazza — its one way only. You will see a large church on the left, the bar and our town museum on the right, the bank, post office, fountain and another church on the other side of the piazza. Go right and pass through the piazza, down the only street you can go. I'm in the next little piazza on the left- Piazza Preziotti, number 4.
If you get lost ask for Michael and they’ll tell you where I live.
