Enquire nowThe Umbria region
True heart of Italy both geographically and spiritually, for millennia the Umbrian region has had a crucial strategic role for its location halfway between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic sea coasts and the proximity to Rome. Travelling Umbria, the “green region” of Italy, is a journey full of surprises. If you are you fascinated by landscapes and campaniles, fertile fields and picturesque woodlands, towns and villages with ancient palaces, churches and towers, Umbria is the right place to go. The extraordinary balance between nature and human activity has created impressive landscapes amongst the most beautiful in Italy.
Umbria is always enjoyable all over the year, depending what you are looking for. The list of places to visit is endless. In Easter period, a multitude of spiritual places do offer traditional religious events. In May and June, you can choose either to laze about the garden and the pool in the evening looking both at the spectacular show of hundreds of firefly and the gorgeous starry sky, or to enjoy local village genuine food festivals. In the higher summer months there are plenty of events to enjoy such as the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto (very popular arts festival of music, theatre and dance), or Umbria Jazz, attracting big celebrities from all around the world (book your tickets in advance!). September and October are perfect months to visit the most beautiful medieval towns in the world with not too hot weather and too many tourists around but, nonetheless plenty of cultural and musical events to be enjoyed. And when it is time to sit at the table, every period of the year is the right one: you will find a solid culinary tradition, simple yet tasty, based on what the land has to offer. The gourmets will also be able to feast on the black truffle of the Norcia region, exported from Umbria all over the world.
The Perugia / Collazzone area
Collazzone is a pleasant Umbrian town, at the top of a hill (469m above sea level), halfway between Perugia and Todi, overlooking the central part of the Tiber Valley.
Here lived two important figures of Christianity: Blessed Simon and Jacopone da Todi.
Umbria is among the smallest Italian regions, allowing you to reach every place of interest in less than one hour driving. Nonetheless, in the immediate surroundings of Santa Caterina (from 10 to 30km) you will find small medieval towns and villages, artistic gems which have maintained their original aspect. Just to mention a few: Bevagna, famous for the historical commemoration of the medieval lifestyle; Montefalco, famous for the Sagrantino wine ; Deruta, famous for its ceramics; Ripabianca famous for its cashmere and pottery; and of course the medieval Todi, considered among the best places to live in the world for quality of life.
NATURE: The very close Parco del Sole (http://www.parcodelsole.com/) is an ideal spot for nature friendly groups. The park extends a distance of 4 km along a stream for a while. A lush flora with 300 species of animals living in a habitat along with a comprehensive set of services (BBQ, pic nic areas, bar, football field).
Lake Trasimeno: Italy's largest non-Alpine lake, ideal for bird watching, has got also an authentic fishing community (San Feliciano) on the east coast, with fishing boats where fishermen sit and mend their nets.
