A small complex of family run apartments situated on the hill below the etruscan village of Bettona, opposite Assisi(approx 12km).La macina di Bettona is an ideal base for, either visiting the many historical towns and villages of Umbria and Southern Tuscany,or for just relaxing by the pool set in the olive grove.
The farmhouse is divided into 3 apartments with the possibility of renting a fourth apartment within the grounds.

IL Maurilio is a large ground floor apartment,with wheelchair access.The apartment has 2 double bedrooms, one with en suite shower room.There is a second large shower room, suitable for disabled guests.Both bedrooms have french windows opening out on to the garden area leading down to the pool,with a furnished patio for al fresco eating.This patio area is reserved for use by guests staying in Il Maurilio.
The kitchen is fully fitted with an oven/hob,fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The separate dining room/lounge which has maintained many of the original features,is very spacious,and has a double settee bed.
In the front garden there is a BBQ,whilst the pool and children's play area are situated at the bottom of the footpath below the apartment in the olive grove.

This apartment has disabled access and a large shower room equipped for disabled guests.The front garden is flat but there is a gentle slope down to the pool area.
Laundry room with coin operated washing machine and ironing facilities for use by guests(not suitable for wheelchair access).
Equipment for small babies can be requested when booking at no extra charge.
All bedroom,bathroom and kitchen linen provided.
Electricity, gas and water consumption included in price plus end of stay cleaning.
Central heating available at extra cost.

The farmhouse is set in spacious grounds that are shared by the 3 apartments,however each apartment has its' own entrance and own furnished patio for outdoor eating ,close to the BBQ area.There is a children's play area in the olive grove below the 7m x 15m pool.

The Umbria region

Umbria, better known as the green heart of Italy has so very much to offer to whoever decides to visit.Be it for a cultural holiday or just a peaceful break away from it all.This region is steeped in history offering the visitor an incredible number of beautiful and historical places to visit and enjoy. Assisi, Todi,Montefalco, Spoleto to name but a few.

The balmy summer evenings are enlivened by the numerous village festas held throughout the region.These festas are great fun for allthe family and all offer great traditional food at reasonable prices.

The Perugia / Bettona area

The etruscan village of Bettona is situated high up on the hill, enclosed within the walls,looking towards Assisi, Perugia and Spello.

Within easy driving distance there are so many things to see and do.
For example, why not eat out, very reasonably at one of the local festas,or just enjoy the music.
Try the medieval festival " Il Mercato dell Gaiete" at Bevagna held in June,Umbria Jazz or Spoleto Festival both held during July or one of the many local festas held in August and September. Try a guided bus trip around Perugia.
Plenty of sports to try in the area Golf, riding, tennis and a little further a field rafting and rock climbing

The village of Passaggio(2km) offers all the services needed to enhance your stay, e.g well stocked supermarket, petrol station, bank, bakery, take away. Assisi, the home of St Francis is just a 15minute drive away, whilst Spello, Bevagna, Perugia,Orvietro as well as many other towns, are all within easy driving distance.

“A Perfect place for a celebration” 22 friends and relatives from Australia were invited to celebrate a 70th birthday in Italy and La Macina di Bettona was chosen for the venue. It was absolutely perfect. Liz made the initial booking easy by answering questions promptly and expertly. Midst many of her talents she speaks fluent English and Italian. All couples had their own beautiful apartment with ensuite bathroom, lounge and cooking facilities. The whole estate, owned by Roberto and his family is absolutely spectacular and beautifully managed, both inside the apartments and outside in the gorgeous landscaped gardens. Upon our arrival Liz had arranged for us to have dinner in the restaurant which is on the property, and where we all met Roberto and his family. A beautiful family and a wonderful host. Our Italian dinner was superbly prepared and presented by Roberto's family. The grandchildren spent many hours in the sparkling clear swimming pool. There were many highlights on our trip, especially visiting centuries old hill-top towns, Montefalco, Spello, Assisi, Bevagna, Perugia, all of which were close to the property. Roberto taught us to play Bocci which proved to be most enjoyable. A wonderful holiday and a perfect place to relax.

“A beautiful location for a relaxing holiday” We stayed one week during August and were made to feel extremely welcome by Roberto and Liz. As 2 families with 3 children we had plenty of room in the spacious Il Maurilio apartment ( the large bedroom was still spacious even with the addition of 2 full size single beds). The apartment had everything we required and was beautifully clean with plenty of towels and bedding. The living area was spacious and cool during the day but we spent most time outside, either on the terrace or by the pool. The pool area was beautifully kept with plenty of seating for all the guests. The apartment was close to the pool so it was easy for the children to return there as required. We thoroughly enjoyed the barbeque provided by Roberto, a lovely relaxed evening. Booking was easy, thanks to Liz, who offered excellent advice on the choice of apartment to best suit our requirements. It was a thoroughly relaxing holiday in a lovely environment.

“Best vacation ever” We stayed two weeks in this wonderful place during July, and by the end of our stay we had already decided that this would not be our last visit to La Macina di Bettona... As a familiy of 4 (kids aged 3 + 6) we had plenty of room in the spacious Il Maurilio appartment and enjoyed the proximity to the great pool area with the most amazing view towards Assisi. Worth noticing is that the pool is not that suitable for the youngest as it is pretty deep. But the stairs leading down the water makes up for water play for the smallest of kids. You also find a small playground near the pool area. Everything is very clean and nicely kept, and everywhere you have the wonderful smell of lavendar and rosemary. Roberto and Liz are extremely helpful with all sorts of requests and you feel very welcome. Don't miss out on the Wednesday barbeque where you get to sample the best of the local cuisine in a nice and informal manner. The walk up to Bettona is pretty steep and not really recommendable for younger kids so you do need a car to go shopping etc. Plenty of opportunities both in the nearby village of Passagio and larger supermarkets near St Maria degli Angeli. What we found really great about Umbria is that it is not that crowded by tourists so if you are looking for calm beautiful small villages and a small piece of heaven at La Macina you should look no further (if you can only manage to get a booking as this place have many devoted fans that return year after year).

“Superb” Superb, there are so many words to describe our holiday staying in Maurilio, at La Macina di Betonna, but superb describes it best. Nestled amongst Olive Groves, below the historic village of Betonna, near enough to get anything, food, bakery, post office, restaurants, yet far enough away you don't feel like you are in the hubub of tourism. Our apartment Maurilio is large, light, bright, clean and airy and full of all domestic appliances one could need on holiday, plus a brick built Bar-b-Que in the garden. A warm welcome is always received from Roberto and his family, along with English speaking Lizzie who is very kind and a huge help. Relaxing by the pool with a drink just taking in the vista is so enjoyable. For the more energetic there are interesting walks in the area, bikes can be hired, there is a Boules Pitch, and Tennis can be played locally. Joining in the local village Festa's can be a great holiday experience as the Italians are so warm and friendly. Children can have endless fun in the pool, and they have a little play park with swings, a slide, table football, and a Wendy House. We have been returning year after year for the passed 10 years. There is always something new to do, or somewhere different to explore. it is just our 'Little bit of Heaven' and I am sure new guests will feel the same. Highly recommend renting this apartment, perfect location, and to keep up with the 21st Century, Wifi is available. V & G Worcester

“What a fab place!” This was my first visit to La Macina di Bettona and I loved it! I was staying here as part of a large group. The apartment was well kept and comfortable, it has everything you need. Most nights we would BBQ and eat on the terraces. The surrounding views are beautiful both day and night. Depending on the type of holiday you want you can quite easily stay local, enjoy the pool and jacuzzi or stroll up to the pretty village of Bettona. If you want to head further afield Assisi is a must place to visit. There's also a great ice cream parlour in Torgiano which is worth a trip to. I would recommend this place to anyone. I hope to go back next year!
