The Umbria region
We are in Umbria Tuscany Border, the best location to visit both the region.
ore details of our medielval village:
In Paciano, our Medieval village
where there are 3 good restaurants:
“L'Oca Bruciata”, only for Fontanaro's guests 10% discount; “la Loggetta” only for Fontanaro's guests 10% discount.
And on the hill overlooking Paciano, “il Casale” I suggest to book if you wish to eat out on a Saturday or Sunday, because this is quite a busy time. I can make reservation for you, if you like.
There are weekly markets (in the morning, up to 1 p.m.):
Some of the main place of Interest:??? Medieval town of Perugia: Umbria's wonderfully historic capital. The old town which was built with a perspective of the future. The main town centre is easily accessible thanks to the hidden mobile stairs which take you up 500 metres from street level, observing parts of the underground of the Etruscan and Roman foundations. The best in Perugia is a visit to Santa Maria degli Angeli, birthplace of Saint Francis,(1182) Basilica of St. Francis and Church of Santa Chiara.
There are numerous museums in Perugia from which to choose. Ranging from Archeological to Contemporary, each one offering great works of art and history the most renowned being the National Museum of Archeology. For more information: http://www.beniculturali.it or +39 05 78 20 177
Chiusi: The astonishing Etruscan Museum.??Cortona: A small Etruscan city in Tuscany, situated on a hill not far from Siena, Assisi and Perugia. Visiting this city means an encounter with art, with history and with spirituality. Getting to know this timeless city is a real rediscovery of our past. Cortona offers testimony to its history as well as an enchanting view of the landscape enclosed by Lake Trasimeno and the Appenines.
Deruta: The most famous ceramics town in Italy with more than 200 operating workshops. The most famous is Ubaldo Grazia Maioliche Artistiche and is the oldest continually-owned family pottery workshop for more than 500 years.
Gubbio: One of Umbria's most beautiful medieval hill towns with a splendid Roman amphitheatre.
Trasimeno Lake: The coexistence of the green, gently sloping hills of the tuscan-umbrian countryside, with evocative panorama of the lake and historical villages full of art and culture, have given this territory a particular charm.?Lake Trasimeno is a regional natural reserve, is the fourth largest in Italy and from is waters rise 3 island: Maggiore, Minore and Polvese.?Since 2006 lake Trasimeno joined “LIVING LAKES” which is a worldwide network of 52 lakes and in 2008 was awarded by the UN for its efforts in protection of the nature and for the projects realised for the sustainable development.?It is an ideal place for wonderfull hiking with 16 sign-posted walks, riding and mountain-biking.
