The Western Australia region

Perth has a mixture of the Californian and Mediterranean climates, with mild winters and hot dry summers. Perth is the sunniest capital in Australia with an average of eight hours sunshine a day. The skies above Perth are often bright blue without a cloud in the sky. Combine the warm weather and beautiful beaches and it's easy to see why so many people enjoy the outdoor lifestyle of Western Australia. In summer many people can be found at one of the many beautiful white sandy beaches along the coast line, cooling down in the clean blue Indian Ocean.

The summer months are hot with an average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius during the day, and 17 degrees celsius at night. Beware, those from cold climates, some days around New Year's have been known to rise to and above 40 degrees celcius (about 104 degrees farenheit)! The warm summer days are cooled down in the afternoon with the "Fremantle Doctor", a strong sea breeze that blows in from the ocean. The "Doctor" blows away the hot air trapped above the Perth Metropolitan Area and the Darling Ranges, providing an excellent wind for windsurfing and sailing on the Swan River.

The winter months in Perth are from June to August and are mild, with an average temperature of 18 degrees C during the day, and 9 degrees C at night. The wettest month of the year is July, and the average yearly rainfall is around 880mm. The rain seems to come down hard and quickly, and will be followed in many instances with sunny periods. It rarely gets cold enough for snow to fall or frost to form.

Perth, Perth Metro Area

The house is in a lovely quiet area, with lots of tall trees and birdlife. There are lots of parks, we are 2 mins' walk from Curtin University and just 15 mins from Perth city centre.

Crown Casino at Burswood is around 10 minutes way by car and the WACG (cricket fans' heaven) is 8 minutes by bus away.

Victoria Park & East Victoria Park has a fantastic strip of shops, restaurants of all types and a wide choice of pubs and bars.

The Swan River is a 5 minute drive or around 7 minutes by bus - lovely walks & picnic spots and perfect for rollerblading or cycling (bike hire available from Perth city).
