Portreath is on the North coast of Cornwall, it has a splendid sandy beach set amidst rocks and rockpools excellent for surfing and bathing. There is a harbour that dates back to the 18th century and the village has plenty of local amenities including a supermarket, bakery, restaurants and pubs.
Truro is the city of Cornwall located mid-way between the north and south coasts. The city has a fine selection of shops, restaurants, a museum and a magnificent cathedral, which was built between 1880 and 1910. On Boscawen Street there is a splendid city hall (Hall For Cornwall) built in 1846 that has recently benefited from an extensive interior and remodelling program.
St.Ives with the sun on the water is breathtaking. There is a wonderful Museum, Tate Gallery and a delightful village with beaches, small gift and craft shops surrounding the fishing harbour that helped St.Ives grow to prosperity. A scenic coastal railway trip can be used as a park and ride connects St.Ives with Lelant at Hayle. Hayle is still a working port and some of its piers and jetties date back to the 18th century.
Falmouth is a very popular holiday resort located on the west of Cornwall. There are 4 main beaches, Gyllyngvase, Castle, Swanpool and Maenporth, a perfect arena for sunbathing, swimming and sandcastle building. The bustling town centre contains many of the expected high street names, alongside specialist shops with great maritime charm.
Sheltered from the Atlantic winds and the surfing seas. The Southern coast offers a much calmer part of Cornwall with small towns, fishing villages, harbours and a choice of historical gardens. The spectacular Eden Project (home to a dramatic global garden the size of 30 football pitches) is located at Bodelva near St.Austell and Par.
The Perranporth area
An ideal location to stroll along the west facing 3-mile stretch of fine, golden sand surrounded by high dunes and cliffs, or one may wish to explore the many caves and rock pools. Perranporth is a true surfers paradise, whilst also popular for those who wish to have a swim or a relaxed paddle in the sea. Throughout the summer season you can be entertained in the beach pub/restaurant/takeaway The Watering Hole, with various live bands, ranging from the easy listening Jazz Bands, to Reggae Bands and Rock Bands etc. The beach is an ideal location to keep the younger members of the family occupied, with childrens go-karts, slides and a ball pool operating throughout the summer season. An 18-hole links golf course, gliding, flying clubs, boating, bowling, horse-riding, tennis and fishing lakes are all in the village with numerous small shops and restaurants to cater for everyone.

Overall Brea House was as advertised, an upper market holiday let in a beautiful location. We come to Perranporth a number of times each year and have stayed in all manor of places, some good, some bad and some ugly. Brea house has to be one of the nicest places we have stayed. The house was immaculate when we got there, and apart from some minor issues with the underfloor heating (which Duchy Holidays were kind enough to deal with immediately on alert), and we very much enjoyed our stay. A short walk to town, there is a hill involved, but not one that would put me off staying here, and I had to push 3 kids under the age of 3 up it every day! My only criticisms of Brea House would be, at the cost during peak season (we stayed during Christmas week), it lacks one or 2 things - some sort of DVD player for the kids as the freeveiw only seemed to pick up 5 channels during our stay (so maybe a better freeveiw box?), and perhaps some WiFi? Duchcy Holidays were also a pleasure to let through (again), and were very helpful in planning a last minute Christmas tree delivery for my kids. Overall I would recommend Brea House, and I would also stay here again, in fact we are already considering next christmas! |

We stayed for a week with friends and our 15 month old daughter. The house is very new and impressive - it sits on a hill with great views out the back with a large rear terrance and first floor balcony. The master bedroom and kids room are on the top floor (in the roof) with their own big bathroom. The other bedrooms are on the ground floor with the utility room and bathroom. Two bedrooms lead out on to the terrace with a huge BBQ. It is very new and there are some oddities - they need to put some pictures on the walls and the odd rug here and there as it feels quite bare. The walls and floors let the sound through too. There is no internet connection and the only people who got a 3G connection were on Orange. Otherwise it's GPRS which is fairly typical in Cornwall outside town centres. It is a genuine 5min walk to the beach. It isn't very accessible if you don't walk well or at all - the road it's on is very pothole ridden which is fine in a car but would be a pain in a wheelchair. It is also quite a steep wlak uphill. It's also set across three floors so you need to make sure any kids are safe on the stairs. On the small kids front apart from a lack of child lock on the cupboard under the sink (gets annoying after the thousandth time they open it) it's very good. The can play on the balcony safely as there's no space to crawl through and fall, and you can close the doors to stop them getting the stairwell. We had a nice time and Ducky holidays who we booked through have always been pleasant and accommodating. Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review on this property. We're glad you enjoyed your holiday and we will ensure your constructive comments regarding rugs, pictures, child locks etc.. are passed on to the owners. Many thanks |

Stayed at Brea his with my partner our 2 dogs a couple of friends and their six year old son. It turned out to be ideal for all. The accomodation is very open plan creating a very relaxing environment, the kitchen is nice and we found a large barbecue in the patio area that wasn't listed on the website. The property overlooks a park with a kids play area making it all the more convenient. No problem bringing the dogs when eating out in town as most places allow dogs. Being peak season the area for dogs off leash on perranporth beach was restricted however just carry on up past this to the much quiter perran sands and no restrictions apply. For a family day out I would reccomend hollywell bay theme park. Aprox 10 min drive towards Newquay there's loads for the kids and very impressive 18 hole pitch and put, again dogs are welcome. I highly recommend a visit to brea house and perranporth however if any in your group are not good walkers i would suggest accomodation closer to town as the walk back to brea house is up a short but fairly steep hill. |
