Maison Martin-Pecheur is a modern, self-contained, single storey house sleeping a 8 people in the grounds of a lovely riverside 'Mas' in a charming village about 10 minutes drive from Perpignan, and also about 10 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches. This lovely holiday home is in Roussillon - the most southern, warmest and sunniest part of mainland France.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region

This is the Roussillon area of the South of France which is the most Southern, as well as the warmest and sunniest part of mainland France. The region is proud of its clear coastal lagoons which is provide a haven for wildlife and are often tinged pink by the flocks of flamingos who live there. There are long sandy beaches as well as acres of vineyayds and orchards; coastal resorts and quaint villages which together with the breath-taking beauty of the Pyrenees make this area a stunning place for a memorable holiday.


Perpignan area

The local villages of Villelongue-de-la-Salanque and Canet en Roussillon are just 1km and 3kms away respectively. Villelongue is very 'French' and quaint and has a 'boulangerie', whilst Canet is bigger and has a Catalan restaurant and bars. It's only 5 kms to the much larger resort of Canet Plage and the Mediterranean beaches with lots of bars and restaurants - also you can also drive 4kms to St Marie Plage, again with a wide choice of bars and restaurants. This is a great area for enjoying a beach and seaside holiday or, if you prefer, the lovely swimming pool and the tranquility of the garden at the Mas.

Sports facilities - at Canet Plage and St Cyprien all types of water sports in the summer season including sailing, surfing, wind surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, water-ski-ing, and fishing and deep sea fishing boat trips available from the harbour. The Golf Course at St Cyprien is one of the most reputed golf destinations in France with an 18 hole championship course (par 73, 6480m) and a further 9 hole course - both have water hazards, and are only 15 minutes drive from this property. The Grande Stade offers indoor and outdoor tennis, badminton, squash, table tennis and a gymnasium. It's possible to hire cycles, mopeds, motorcycles, scooters and quad bikes locally. Horse-riding in and around St Cyprien is a local specialty.

Special attractions locally (to name but a few!) are: Perpignan - a bustling, friendly city with museums, a late Gothic cathedral, and lively good value bars and restaurants, many offering Catalan dishes. Collioure: a lovely picturesque fishing village - a real jewel on the Cote Vermeille. Many artists such as Matisse and Picasso have long been attracted to Collioure and Charles Rennie Macintosh spent time here. Castelnou - a delightful fortified village built on the summit of a mountain in the Pyrenees. Ceret - a lively hub of Catalan tradition with activities such as bullfights and 'sardana' dancing - it's also a popular arts and crafts centre. Villefranche de Conflent - a walled bastide town in the Pyrenees - fascinating to explore - you can take a little yellow train up the mountains through the Tet valley - beautiful scenery and impressive bridges. Still within an easy drive are Carcassonne, Beziers and Narbonne.

Markets - many and colourful - daily in Perpignan (10kms) and Canet-Plage (5kms). There's a big Sunday market in St Laurent de la Salanque (8kms), and a big Tuesday and Friday market in St Cyprien. Wednesday market in Canet village (3kms) and Saturday market in the beautiful Ceret (20kms).

Restaurants - a very wide choice is available, many serving Catalan dishes. Locally this property there are restaurants at Canet Village, Canet Plage, St Marie village and plade and in St Cyprien.

Supermarket - the nearest one is just 5 minutes away by car.


How to get there

By Car - The village of Villelongue de la Salanque lies just 10 minutes drive to the North East of Perpignan and is near the coast at Canet Plage and Ste Marie Plage. The nearest motorway exits are No:s 41 and 42 on the A9 Languedocienne.

By Air - Perpignan airport (Ryanair, FlyBE and BMI) is the nearest, about 15 minutes drive. If you do not wish to hire a car, we can with prior notice arrange for you to be met at Perpignan airport. Girona Airport in Northern Spain (Ryanair) is also very convenient - about 45-50 mins drive. Other airports are Montpellier, Carcassonne or Toulouse.

The layout is well thought-out with a double bedroom and bathroom at each end of the house, each with their own private terrace, and the sitting, dining and kitchen areas in the middle. There are two further bedrooms: one a twin room and the other a smaller room with bunk beds for children. The accommodation has 2 bathrooms and is absolutely ideal for a couple with up to 4 children holidaying with grandparents, or two couples with children holidaying together. A baby-sitting and catering service can be arranged with prior notice.

You'll have your own terrace and al fresco dining area with a barbeque and you are free to use any part of the Mas's spacious garden if you wish. Swings etc are provided for the children. The attractive swimming pool is large and secured with a gate - it is shared with one other smaller holiday property here and with the owners (who will only use the pool facilities if you are out sight-seeing).

The house is on the edge of the village of Villelongue-de-la-Salanque - a quaint village untouched by tourism. Another pretty village, Canet-en-Roussillon, is about 2 miles away. Despite being in the heart of the countryside and surrounded by farms and vineyards, the house is close to the sandy beaches of the Cote Vermeille and the beauty spot of Collioure. It is also close to the lovely vibrant city of Perpignan and is very convenient for the airport.

On clear days here there are fantastic views of the Pyrenees, especially from the dining room window! It's a beautiful region marked by the contrasting landscapes: to the south the beaches give way to rocky bays and the traditional fishing villages of Collioure and Port Vendres, and to the west you'll find the vineyards and fruit farms of the Tech and Tet valleys leading up to Mount Canigou which at 2785m high is snow-capped for most of the year and visible from all along the coast.

Living room: Open plan to the dining area and kitchen with modern furniture, comfortable settees, coffee table, lamps, TV with both satellite English channels, and French channels. FM radio and DVD, CD and MP3 player - a DVD library is available for you to use.

Dining room: With magnificent views of Mount Canigou and the Pyrenees from the window. The French windows open out onto a terrace at the front of the property.

Kitchen: Very well-equipped with electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher etc.

Utility room: A washing machine and a tumble dryer are available for use in a communal area.

Bedrooms: 4 bedrooms: 2 double rooms both air-conditioned and both which have French windows opening out onto separate, private terraces. They have ample storage and hanging. The 3rd bedroom here has twin beds and the 4th bedroom is smaller with comfortable bunk beds for 2 children.

Bathrooms: 2 bathrooms adjacent to both the double rooms; one has a shower cubicle, vanity unit and WC, the other has a bath with shower over, vanity unit and WC.

Further details outdoors:
Outside: There are 3 private terraces for this property - one for each double bedroom and the main one at the front with a BBQ and garden furniture for al fresco dining. The garden of the Mas are free for you to use, and there is a play area for children. There is private parking for your car in the grounds.

The swimming pool is shared, but is very attractive and large being 13m x 7m. Sun-loungers are available here for your use.

There's a further communal shower near the swimming pool area for freshening up before you go in the pool and indeed for showering afterwards.
Additional accommodation: On this development is a further 3 bedroom house adjacent to the owners.


Further details

Internet: You can connect to the internet using WiFi around the pool area. By request you may use the owners' internet connection for checking flights etc.

Baby facilities: A cot and a high chair are available upon request.

Winter heating: Is included in the rental cost.

Gas, electric, & water: are all included in the rental cost.

End-of-stay cleaning: is not included in the rental cost. If you do not wish to clean the house at the end of your stay, the owners can arrange it for 35 Euros, payable direct.

Bed & bathroom linen: are NOT included in the rental cost. Towels may be hired at £1 per towel per week, Bed linen is £8 per double bed and £6 per single bed per week, payable direct to the owners.

Damage deposit: The owner requests a damage deposit of £150 or 220 Euros on arrival and this will be refunded to you at the end of your stay, less the replacement cost of any breakages.

Change over day: Normally Saturday, but can be flexible out of high season - please enquire

Long weekend stays and mini breaks: May be available out of high season, depending on availability - please enquire.

Pets: small pets only are permitted here - and subject to prior request.

Smoking: is not permitted inside this house - sorry.
