Home description
Peace and privacy is offered by this comfortable, heated, villa set in the Dordogne countryside in the Perigord Blanc, surrounded by woods and meadows. Outskirts of village near few houses. The very spacious garden is completely fenced. With a large table under a pergola with lounge chairs and recliners. The pool is salt water and is private and for your sole use. A barbecue in the back-garden and a very spacious side- and back-garden with shady places. Walking distance to small village with shops includes a bakery, butchers, a bar and a small very pretty restaurant. Restaurants are not expensive (beginning at 11€ for a four course meal!) and the quality is top notch. During long walks in the forest behind this house you will rarely see other people. Wild deer, otters, falcons and eagles have been seen in the woodlands. The road outside finishes a few hundred yards away so very peaceful - no traffic. Large supermarkets are at Perigueux (10km) and St Astier (12km).

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
Perigueux is the proud owner of the largest cathedral in south western France. The Romanesque Cathedrale St-Front was only completed in the 19th Century when the architect Paul Abadie oversaw the restoration and embellishment of the building. Around the cathedral you will find a number of winding lanes from the 15th and 16th Centuries. Follow them down to the pedestrianised Rue Limogeanne and you will find where the locals have been doing most of their shopping since the Middle Ages. The town was originally inhabited by a Gaulish tribe called Petrocorri. It was the Romans, however, who claim the credit for developing the town into the department’s prosperous capital. Today it is still a major market town. The market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays when people come from all over the region to display their goods and browse for the latest bargains. The local specialties are truffles and pies.
Perigueux / Gravelle area
The village of Annesse et Beaulieu is located in the heart of the scenic Dordogne region and only 10 km from its capital, the city of Perigueux. Nearby is the delightful medieval town of Brantome where it is a delight to walk around the remarkable and ancient abbey founded by Charlemagne (742-814). With its soaring campanile this is one of the most elegant medieval and Renaissance buildings in the Dordogne, complete with caves used by the monks as kitchens and cellars. The town sits on a bend of the river Dronne and a stroll along the riverside is an unforgettable experience. Loads of brilliant restaurants complete the experience – you will come back. There are also boats trips available. About 10 km down the river you come to the pretty village of Bourdeilles where there are two chateaux of different periods built on a fortified hill – a medieval fortress (13th – 14th century) and a Renaissance palace (16th) with a remarkable collection of furniture. On the river Dronne you can rent a canoe Just a short distance away there is the little town of Riberac and is renowned for its Friday market – the best in the area ad well worth a visit. Not very far away is the town of Grottes de Villars and a short distance north of the town are the caves with some impressive stalactites and paintings more than 17,000 years old. It was discovered in 1953 and is the largest underground network in the Perigord. The underground river has hollowed out huge chambers connected to each other by galleries.Nearby is the Chateau de Puyguilhem in a village of the same name. It is a fascinating structure way out in the woods a Renaissance masterpiece that fell into disrepair but was carefully restored after WW2 Going a little way east from Gravelle just over the Charente border is Aubeterre sur Dronne Its charming narrow streets wind through white stone houses and ancient buildings. Built in the shape of an amphitheatre this former stronghold is classified as one of France’s prettiest villages. The most outstanding and impressive monument in Aubeterrre is the underground church of St John These are just to the north of Gravelle there are equally interesting place to the South, East and West. You will need months of holiday to scratch the surface!!
We are also within easy reach of both the hundreds of castles, caves, pre-historic sites like those at Lascaux and Les Eyzies, lakes with watersports, themed parks, medieval towns like Monpazier and Sarlat and lively markets. There are more prehistoric decorated caves in Southwest France than anywhere else in the world, over a hundred of them, mostly concentrated in the Vezere and Lot Valleys. The extraordinary paintings of horses and reindeer, buffalo, bison and mammoth found in these caves date from between 35,000 and 10.000 BC.
We are near the river L'ille for canoeing and kayaking also close to the Aqua Park and Lakeside beaches where all watersports take place most of the year. Watch the locals play Boules on the village square, eat in fabulous restaurants nearby sampling their gastonomic delights. Horse riding, cycling or just walking, there is all types of recreation for everyone

Guestbook
"You have a lovely house, very well maintained and complete with everything we needed. and the house was very central to Riberac, Bergerac, Perigueux etc. Having the Sky TV was great but the computer with broadband was probably even better.I have a teenage son, and it kept him happy for a couple of hours every day (forums, bebo etc), brilliant!" Graham (London).
"Thankyou for all the effort you have put in to making your home such a great place to stay.......you really have thought of everything" Ian and Linda -Middlesbrough
And thanks for the house which was lovely, very tasteful and comfortable. We had some lovely days towards the end of the second week so were able to make better use of the pool and in any case the area is great whatever the weather, n'est-ce pas? Roy
