Home description
This is a house for getting away from it all, including the English resort feel. You'll be in a beautiful Spanish village with all the benefits the residents enjoy all year round. There is an excellent corner shop at the end of the road for all the essentials including gorgeous fresh bread, meats and ridiculously cheap wine! Our kids go off to the shop in the morning to bring back breakfast.
The ground floor is open plan with a new kitchen & new shower room, dining area and a cosy corner with squashy sofas & wood burning stove for winter evenings. The bedrooms on the first floor, with their own small balconies and sliding doors, share the landing with a bathroom.
The upper floor has a the forth bedroom with new summer kitchen, spare room & delightful open terrace with comfortable seating and eating areas. The street runs to each side providing on-street parking outside the front door.

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
Given the great location of Periana you have a range of different activities to choose from to make the most of your visit. The house lends itself to lazy mornings on the terrace and a pop to the shop at the end of the street for fresh local produce for lunch. The house has a collection of guidebooks and leaflets for a wide range of possibilities but we’ll mention some here.
The closest beach is at Torre del Mar which is half an hours drive but we prefer the La Playa Burriana at Nerja which is a further 10 mins drive. Both have a promenade with cafes on the beach and Nerja is a lovely place with the old town a great place to end your day.
The towns of Granada to the North-West & Ronda both have historic centres and within range for a day out. Locally there are some smaller villages one favourite being Comares which is perched on the top of a mountain you can see from Periana. The Spanish like their festivals so keep an eye out for one coinciding with your visit.
The Parque Natural to the west of Periana is the Spanish equivalent of our National Parks. In the locality there are a range of tracks in the mountains suitable for walking & biking, there are maps in the house.
You can find a picnic area which often has barbecuing facilities by lakes and rivers surrounded by walks. In Nerja there are the caves to explore & give you some shelter from the sun or maybe even the rain. Local village shops are well stocked and for serious shopping head for the complex at Velez Malaga 20 mins away.
There are several water parks along the coast mostly to the West. There is a water park opposite the complex mentioned above open in the high season (June to August). In addition the tourist resorts around Malaga have a range to theme parks most notably TivoliWorld & the Sea Life Centre at Benalmaldena. All easily within range for a day trip.
Periana area
Periana nestles up in the hills half an hour from the coast at a height of 500m. It’s a typical Spanish white village with a maze of narrow streets leading to the centre with various cafes and shops.
The shops are very well stocked for day-to-day living and the cafes very good value to eat & drink.
How to get there
1 hour easy drive from Malaga airport via the Autovia towards Motril and exit at 272 Velez Malaga. Follow signs to Alhama and you will see Periana signposted. This will take you round by Lake Vinuela.
Just over an hour from Granada airport.
You could get the bus from Malaga Airport into Malaga town then the twice daily but to Periana and back. If you're wanting to explore outside the village then a car hire is essential. Driving directions will be given, before arrival. You would normally be met in the village of Periana and guided to the house on your first visit.

There are a series of DVDs in the house to play on the 14” TV, a collection of English books & board games. There is a radio & an English station broadcasting to the Costa del Sol if you really to hear something familiar!
There are two sets of towels in the house for you to use normally kept in the first floor bathroom cupboards. At least two sets of bedding is also available for your visit. There is a washing machine in the first floor bathroom and room for drying on the terrace.
There are some children's toys on the terrace providing a good space to spread out. There is a high railing running the full length of terrace to prevent any accidents.
