About the home
The Farm
In the midst of the green hills of the Marche, in the community of Pergola, the Metzler Meyer family has renovated an old Borgo, a traditional little hamlet of stone buildings. The therefore created holiday destination „Agriturismo Alla Vecchia Quercia“ lies at the foot of Mount Catria and is surrounded by pastureland, fields and deciduous forest – what more would you want for a perfect vacation.
Included in the agriturismo is our farm which encompasses 14 hectares of organically cultivated fields and pastures, animal husbandry and a large orchard as well as a vegetable garden. Our animals are all bred and raised on the farm. Our carefully selected, sturdy and often local breeds and our farm grown fodder guarantee for excellent quality.
The Cinta Senese pig is an old, sturdy central Italian breed with very tasty meat.
Although the Italian water buffalo is a rather rare sight in the Marche it is an interesting alternative to cattle.
Apennine sheep, rabbits and poultry are also bred and raised on our farm. Of course all our animals live in close vicinity to the Borgo.
The apartment is located in ancient, lovingly renovated stone buildings.
Our Borgo is located at the end of a dead-end road without any motorized through traffic which is especially appreciated by families with children.
Relax
The swimming pool (5 x 10 meters), with a gorgeous view towards Pergola and over almost the entire Valle del Cesano is only a few steps away from the houses.
Here you may cool off after a day trip, horse riding, mountain bike or motorcycle tour or just simply relax and enjoy the scenery.

Marche
This poorly known region in central Italy is waiting to be discovered. The mountains, the sea, the gently rolling hills as well as the rich cultural heritage and the local cuisine are expecting you.
A lot of outdoor activities are inviting you to the region:
In spring you can trek in the nearby Apennine mountains, bicycle or ride a motorbike on the countless back roads or go horse riding.
In fall you may visit the numerous and colorful markets, such as the truffle markets in Pergola and Aqualagna or antiquities and weekly farmers’ markets in various other towns and villages. If you feel like it, here you can enjoy the hustle and bustle atmosphere and taste the local wines and cuisine with its delicious specialties.
Also well worth a visit are the well known culture cities such as Urbino, Castelleone di Suasa, Mondavio, Gradara, the Furlo Gorge or the stalactite cave of Frassassi … places where you can fall in love with outstanding medevial architecture, the remnants of the ancient Romans or the wonders of nature.
The nearby resort towns of Fano, Marotta, Senigallia as well as the rocky Conero coast near Ancona are beckoning you for swimming, beachcombing or sunbathing.
The Pergola / Valdarca area
Il territorio di Pergola risulta abitato fin dalla preistoria, come testimoniano reperti dell’età neolitica, del bronzo e del ferro. Diverse, inoltre, sono le tracce lasciate da successive popolazioni: umbre, etrusche e celtiche. L'epoca romana è invece ben documentata: il ritrovamento di tombe, vasi e suppellettili varie, sia in città (stazione ferroviaria) sia in diverse località quali Grifoleto, Ferbole, Valrea, Monte Santa Croce, Monterolo, Montesecco e Cartoceto, testimoniano una romanizzazione assai diffusa (nel suo territorio fu rinvenuto, nel 1946, il famoso gruppo archeologico dei bronzi dorati da Cartoceto di Pergola).
Museo dei Bronzi Dorati e della Città di Pergola
I bronzi dorati da Cartoceto di PergolaInaugurata nel 1999, la struttura è ospitata nel quattrocentesco ex convento di San Giacomo. Attrattiva principale è sicuramente il gruppo statuario di origine romana dei Bronzi dorati da Cartoceto di Pergola, più volte salito alla cronaca, anche nazionale, per la contesa fra la cittadina pesarese e Ancona. Oggi il gruppo, di origine romana, probabilmente risalente al 50 a.C., fa bella mostra di sè nella sala realizzata con soluzioni tecnologiche all'avanguardia, dove una "tenda d'aria" garantisce il microclima ideale per la conservazione di queste statue uniche al mondo. La struttura museale ospita inoltre una pinacoteca con quadri e opere lignee, una sezione numismatica, una sezione romana ed una sezione di arte contemporanea con opere grafiche del maestro e concittadino Walter Valentini.
