FAMILY-RUN RESTAURANT, with typical courses from the Tuscan tradition, prepared exclusively with local products and organic vegetables from our farm. Indoor dining room and outdoor panoramic loggia.
Our holiday farm is located right in the center of Tuscany, in a beautiful position on a hill on the left side of the river Arno, in front of the typical medieval town of Laterina.
Set amidst gentle hills, it offers a breathtaking view that goes from the Arno river valley to the Apennines. It is an ideal starting point for trips to the most renowned cities in Tuscany and Umbria. Arezzo is just 15 km away, Siena 45 and Florence 60. San Gimignano, Cortona, Perugia, Assisi and many other art cities are also near just like Chianti, Valdichiana, Casentino and Lake Trasimeno.
The holiday farm has been recently painstakingly restored and now retains all the classic architectural aspects of old Tuscan dwellings (cotto or stone floors, oak beams, bricks arches), but it was also endowed with a touch of modernity that makes the reconstruction even more fascinating. All the apartments have their private entrance, a garden for outdoor dining and a reserved area by the swimming pool. The main farmhouse consists of 5 apartments, while the smaller house, the Cottage, hosts other two. The Cottage is also an ideal dwelling for groups, because it is completely independent and surrounded by a big private garden.

The Tuscany region
The Upper Valdarno is a large natural trough, enclosed by the mountains of Pratomagno and the Chianti Mountains. In the Middle Ages, the valley was long disputed between Florence and Arezzo, and today its provinces are divided between the two capitals. Numerous archeological finds of Etruscan and Roman period bear witness to the population of these areas already in the Archaic period.
The Valdarno has many landscapes, the high slopes of Pratomagno and the main storical centers of Montevarchi, San Giovanni Valdarno and Terranova Bracciolini. Many sites to visit, the Cassia Vetus, the ancient road that connected the lucumony of Arezzo to Fiesole, "The Cliffs", a spectacular landscape with beautiful clay erosion. Along the road "Setteponti ", the Roman Bridge Buriano of 1200. Leonardo da Vinci himself, excited at the sight of these places, chose them as the background of his most famous work, the Mona Lisa. Places of interest are also Parish Church of St. Peter in Gropina (National Monument), Laterina, Montozzi Castle, Cennina Castle, Montebenichi, Bucine, Il Borro, Galatrona tower, the Nature Reserves, The Park of Cavriglia and "The woods of Friars", the Botanical Rose Garden Fineschi, the Monumental Arboretum in Moncioni, the Museum of Paleontology of Montevarchi.
The area is full of nice restaurants that offer either the typical Tuscan cuisine or Pizza.
Supermarket, bank, pharmacy, food stores and grocery are in Laterina and Pergine Valdarno only 3 km from the house. More stores and a supermarket are in Levane, while Ipermarkets and every kind of stores are in Montevarchi and Arezzo. Open air markets in every small town or village in the area every day of the week.
Tourism, visits to the most famous Tuscan art cities and villages, Sightseeing, Bird watching, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Walking, Relaxing, Fishing, Tennis, Photography, clay pigeon shooting.

"beautiful, idyllic retreat in the rolling Tuscan countryside"
My wife and I visited Mariana and Alessio at their wonderful villa in the last week of July/first week of August, travelling with two teenagers and our little dog, Ruffles.
We had a bit of an ordeal in our journey from Kent with our car breaking down in northern Italy en route to Pergine Valdarno and didn't arrive until the Tuesday afternoon (instead of the expected Saturday afternoon!). However, Mariana was there to welcome us and show us around and make us feel at home straight away.
The accomodation was excellent. We stayed in the apartment Viola which was in pristine condition, both in terms of cleanliness and the high quality standard of the finish. Everything seemed new and fresh from the cutelry to the pots and pans and the flat screen TV on the wall. There was a DVD player so the teenagers kept the, mselves occupied with the DVD's they'd brought. Three bathroom's are in the apartment, all well specc'd and again very clean.
We had a lovely elevated outside seating area looking out over the pool and our own allocated area for seating poolside - a clever touch ensuring no towels on sunbeds early in the morning. The pool itself was lovely, a welcoming way of cooling yourself down in the searing heat (it reached 43 degrees during our stay!!) and Alessio kept it in great shape, up around 7:30am every day to clean it up and get it ready for the day.
There were a good mix of families sharing the Villa, Dutch, French, Scottish, Belgian and all very friendly so it's clear that the area attracts a wide range of holidaymakers.
Great facilities are offered - BBQ, washing machine, a good wifi connection, an honesty bar etc. The site is secure with gated entry and good fencing, making it a safe environmement for kids (and dogs!).
A car is needed as the Villa is a good 3 - 4 miles from Laterina along a dusty, gravelly road. Be careful, my SATNAV took me up and over the hill towards Pergine Valdarno (right at St Maria in Valle) which is rather steep and rutted and not those of a nervous disposition (my wife when I'm driving...). There is a nice little restaurant in Laterina and a very good one in Pergine Valdarno called La Cantine which we went to a couple of times.
Arezzo is very close by, about 25min and has a very big supermarket. We were thrilled to walk the streets where Begnini's 'La Vita e Bella' was filmed and it is a delightful town.
Florence was beautiful, if somewhat busy and difficult to park the car - we would have took the train if we weren't travelling with a dog... Cortona was worth a visit, a lovely hillside town full of character, and Siena was just beautiful. All in all a great place to be based whilst exploring Toscana.
Final word goes to your host's, Mariana and Alessio. We were welcomed as old friends and looked after like family. They are both warm and caring people who were personally engaged to ensure that you enjoy your holiday. With our poor fortune during the journey they even offered to accomodate us later in the year, as their guests, so we dont miss out on our time in Italy! You simply don't get that kind of passion very often.
We come away feeling we have got friends in this magical part of Italy and it is a place that we will return to enjoy further.
Downsides? The heat was pretty intense and we struggled to get cool until late in the evening, you really need to heed Alessio's advise and keep all the shutters etc closed throughout the day to have the house cooler at night. Keep yourselves protected from insect bites! The mozzies had a field day on my son so ensure proper protection in the evening and it wouldn't go amis even during the day around the pool as, being in some beautiful countryside, there is the chance of insect bites during the day too.
Highly recommend that you visit Dimore di Poggianto, wonderful area, beautiful apartments, fantastic hosts!!!

"Traditional tuscan house in a beautiful place with great location for visiting other tuscan points of interest"
We stayed at Viola apartment, 2 couples with kids. Spacious apartment, nice interior, many toilets, really comfortable. The pool is quite big, every apartment has its corner with sunbeds. Veranda and bbq, we spend several evenings in the house cooking in a well equiped kitchen. In a whole it's a very nice place in picturesque tuscan hills, not so many plants around the house but beautiful views and sunsets.
There are only 2 points we'd like to improve:
- the road to the house (especially when it goes up near the entrance) is in a bad condition, it's not easy to go up on a car with mechanical transmission. Hope someday nice owners Alessio and Marina will find a way to improve it.
- air conditioning will be very useful as there are many hot and sunny days in summer.
We had a very pleasant and comfortable stay, thanks to attentive hosts Alessio and Marina.
In October 2012, the road has been fully kitted out with cement and is now absolutely easy.
