The Tuscany region
The whole area boasts delicious traditional cuisine and fine wines like DOC Morellino di Scansano from the nearby town of Scansano, where you can sample wines and local specialities in one of the characteristic ‘enotecas’ (tasting shops) or just sit outside the cafe with a delicious Italian ice-cream and watch the world go by! The famous spa town of Saturnia, only 30minutes drive away, with its hot natural springs cascading into small rock pools, like mother natures Jacuzzi is a definite must especially in the winter!
For the more energetic there is a horse riding stables down near the beach just 20 minutes drive away, where you can trek through olive groves in the Tuscan hills. If you want lively bars and an English breakfast on your holiday, this is definitely not the place for you! If you’re looking for culture, art, crafts, tradition, local cuisine, fine wines all in an area of stunning natural beauty, where the pace of life slows right down under the Tuscan sun… then you’ll definitely enjoy a holiday in this part of paradise!
Tuscany boasts a lovely climate. The best way to descibe it is that it seems to have 'proper' seasons which all have something special to share with you... Warm sunny Spring days make a regular appearance from as early as March sending the area into full bloom with blossom on the trees and poppies by the roadside. The summers are hot and relaxing with inviting beaches and shaded pine forests. Autumn's sunny days are a kilidascope of colours, an aray of aromas with bursting vines and olive groves awaiting harvest time. The winter months are colder, time to enjoy the quiet villages filled with the cosy aroma of wood burning on the open fires, wrap up warm for a stroll on the beach or soak away your worries in the nearby hot springs of Saturnia... Mother Nature's Jacuzzi!
A small shop, two bars, two restaurants boasting delicious traditional cuisine and the best pizzeria in the area 9and so child friendly) means you don’t have to venture out of the village if you don’t want to. However, many other villages are waiting to be explored close by such as Magliano in Toscana, Scansano, Pitigliano, Siena and Sorano. The coast is just 20 minutes drive away where you will find beautiful safe sandy beaches The Hot Springs of Saturnia are 30 minutes drive.
There are so many places to visit such as Magliano in Toscana, Scansano, Sorano, Pitigliano, Saturnia, Siena. You can jump on a train to Rome or Florence or a boat to the islands of Giglio, Elba or Giannutri. You can stroll through the National Park of the Maremma, hire bikes and ride through the pine forests next to the beach catching sight of wild boar and deer, explore the beautiful coast or go horseriding through olive groves into the Tuscan hills.

"Characterful apartment in a beautiful location"
We had a fantastic week in Pereta, we really didn't want to leave and the next location had a lot to live up too! Casa Romantica was perfect for us. The living area wasn't the biggest but was very well arranged and everything we needed was there, the welcome basket was very much appreciated allowing us to relax a little and not worry about when the shop would be open. The kids loved rummaging around in the toy boxes, playing the board games and sleeping in bunk beds and we had no problem getting them in the jacuzzi bath at bath time! The main bedroom is fantastically spacious, has plenty of storage and most importantly the bed was very comfortable :0) The view from the balcony was stunning and fantastic for stargazing and bat spotting at night time and breakfast in the morning. There is so much to investigate locally. The beaches are brilliant for young kids. Lots of fun walking thought the pine forests to beautiful clear, calm sea which stays at mid thigh height for ages, particularly the beaches at Ansedonia and Feniglia Pitigliano was well worth the drive. The atmospheric Etruscan Vie Cava trails were such fun to walk, scramble and climb along and the city itself is just amazingly atmospheric. The owners have done a great job providing all the things you need for a relaxing holiday from detailed directions of how to get there to oil and vinegar for your Tuscan beans or Tricolore.
I am really happy you had a good time and pleased you found the house perfect for your family. I try hard to provide all those little extras that make living in a holiday home so much easier. Glad your children liked the toys and games and hope that the star gazing made a memorable holiday for them... I miss not seeing all those stars back home in the UK!! Hope you return again soon.

stayed lhere for a week and only wish it had been for longer. Casa Romantica has everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. It was so nice to come back to at the end of the day site seeing and relax with a drink on the balcony overlooking the beautiful countryside. Pereta is a fairly tale little village and it feels like stepping back in time. We cannot wait to return.
I am pleased you liked Casa Romantica and Pereta and agree the balcony is a special relaxing place. I hope you will return again soon... for 2 weeks next time :-)

"not recommended apartment"
Let me start by saying Pereta is a lovely village and the locals are lovely but the apartment is another story The so called quaint approach to this apartment was not, it was not that nice. The door into the apartment was quite scruffy and it looked like the original one, this could have done with updating. When we got the key out of the safe we entered the building going down 2 steps into the lounge, there was a smell of some sort which was not very nice. First impressions were not good. The bathroom was the best room. The main bedroom was quite big and had plenty of wardrobe space and the bed was king size and comfortable, the window overlooked the valley although we could not open this because the nets were torn with holes in it so letting any bugs fly in, which is a pity it would have been nice to get some fresh air in the room. The lounge was very cramped with only one comfy 2 seater sofa. If there had have been 3 or 4 of us some of us would have had to use the hard dining chairs to sit on. The TV was a waist of time a small 12'' screen not that we wanted to use it. There was a dining table that could be extended but if this was done there would not be much room left in the lounge. The small kitchenette was just about adequate, although cheese on toast was difficult because the grill did not go red but just hot so it took an age to do this. The fridge looked like it had not been defrosted for quite some time it was thick with ice in the freezer bit. The views from the very narrow balcony was awesome but not that much room on it. The doors were all ill fitting so I suppose this is where all the bugs got in, every morning we had to sweep loads of wood lice up. Walking around the apartment without something on your feet was not done just in case you squashed a bug. We found all sorts of creepy crawleys in there. The second bedroom is only fit for 1 or 2 youngsters as this only had bunk beds in there. The price for this is a rip off and having to pay for cleaning on top of this is a downright insult. Would we go again to this apartment NO not a chance. And it's on the ground floor so if you have clunky people above it's noisy. 20 minutes to the nearest beach it says on the website, it's more like 35, it's about 30 minutes to the nearest big supermarket although there is a smaller one 10 minutes away in Scansano where there are some nice places to eat. This amongst other villages we visited is very nice. A couple of nice bars in the square where you can people watch and a small market once a week. Yes Italy is lovely and we enjoyed being there but the apartment spoilt it.
I must say that I am really shocked and very disappointed reading this review as this is the first time someone has complained however, I respect your comments and have taken some of them into consideration. To start off with we don’t wish to update the alleyway down to the house which dates back to the 11th century, or the front door that has been there for a very long time. Most people that visit usually appreciate the history and character of the property. As to the size of the house… I advertise the house for couples or families with small children as the second bedroom is designed for young kids not adults. As to the odd creepy crawly… Pereta is perched on the hillside in the countryside so this is just part of nature. However, I am fitting new fly screens for 2012. The cleaning fee includes all bed linen, towels, beach towels and a lovely welcome basket with enough food and drink for breakfast and an evening meal!! I apologize about the fridge having ice in it and I have bought a new one for 2012. I am sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay at Casa Romantica, obviously this style of holiday was not for you and it’s very sad that you have found so many negative things to say. For your next holiday you may be better staying in a modern style apartment.
