The West Country region
Penzance is the most Westerly market town in mainland UK and has much to offer. Penzance is on a par with St Ives for arts and culture, and is the home of many art galleries. A very large number of renowned artists live and work in West Cornwall, making Penzance a sought after holiday destination.
There are plenty of independent shops, restaurants and pubs serving delicious locally produced food. The harbour and Promenade – which boasts a large art deco open air swimming baths – and the seafront are a two minute walk away. Just down from Chapel Street are Quay Street and the Harbour front. Here you will find an array of water based activities from fishing trips, diving opportunities as well as day trips by boat to the beautiful Isles of Scilly. The Dolphin Tavern in Quay Street is rumoured to be one of the most haunted pubs in Cornwall and offers a selection of fine food, local ales and maybe the occasional 'unseen' guest!! Nearby Chapel street features some unique architecture, such as the Egyptian House, and the historic Admiral Benbow pub, which has seen much pirate skulduggery over the years.
Penzance is the ideal base to explore West Cornwall. Must-see destinations include Land's End, Sennen Cove (white sandy beach with superb surf!) and Porthcurno Beach, which is the home of the famous Minack open air theatre. St. Michael's Mount at Marazion is close by, as is St Ives, The Lizard and The Cathedral City of Truro.
Newlyn is a lively traditional fishing port of great character and charm, and is situated just one mile between Penzance and Mousehole. The colourful bustling harbour is home to the well known Penlee Lifeboat, and boasts one of the largest shipping fleets in England. Newlyn offers several fish markets which sell fresh locally caught fish and seafood daily. Steeped in history and world renowned for its huge artist community, Newlyn has numerous art galleries and is home to the famous 'Newlyn School of Art' and 'Newlyn Art Gallery'.
The village offers a range of amenities, including excellent local shops, and there is also a good selection of restaurants and pubs. Newlyn has a lovely pebbled beach and a superb children's park, which is a short walk from the Promenade in Penzance and the famous open air Lido. At Christmas time, the lights on display are simply stunning.

"Incredible location, views to die for and spotlessly clean"
Amazing view and great attention to detail. Obviously no expense has been spared to get to the level they have. A couple of towel rings and some soap holders in the showers would be icing on the cake.… More
