The Cornwall region

West Penwith or 'The Land's End Peninsular' is situated in the far South West of Cornwall and is arguably the most picturesque area of the country. The Peninsular has diverse land and seascape with hidden sandy coves – some of which are only accessible by scrambling down rocky cliff paths. It boasts long golden beaches, ancient moorland, rolling farmland, shipwrecks, sunken treasure iron age settlements and engine houses, which are a reminder of Cornwall's rich industrial past. Lands End is a stone's throw away with its rugged cliffs and tales of mystery and buried treasure under the waves. The far west of Cornwall enjoys one of the mildest climates in the country which makes it a perfect getaway all year round.

Penzance is a busy market town and boasts a variety of great bars, restaurants and cafe's. Located within easy reach are the city of Truro and the sailing capital, Falmouth. If it's surfing or sunbathing you're after, or perhaps a romantic walk along a deserted beach, then you can are spoilt for choice with some of the area's best beaches on your doorstep, such as Sennen, Praa Sands and Porthcurno. The Eden Project is also only a 45 minute drive away.

The famous St Michael's Mount (described as the jewel in Cornwall's crown) and Lanhydrock House are located close by or you may chose to take a day trip to the Isles of Scilly on 'The Scillonian'. The terminal and ticket office is just a short stroll from the holiday homes.

A particularly enjoyable and picturesque journey is from Penzance via St Erth to St Ives. Once a small fishing village, St Ives has grown to become one of the most famous & popular seaside towns in Cornwall which attracts scores of holiday makers every year.

There is so much to do and see in this special part of Cornwall, whether it be walking along the miles of coastal paths, taking part in water sports, including surfing, dolphin and whale spotting, bird watching, rambling, cycling, relaxing on one of the many stunning beaches, visiting the Minack Theatre at Porthcurno or the myriad of art galleries – there is something for everyone.

"Clean, well-equipped, and centrally located"

We stayed for a week in this very comfortable and well-equipped house, located above a shopping centre, near the bus and train stations. It has its own parking, which is in the service area of the shopping centre and, although seemingly quite a complicated arrangement when we first arrived, worked out very well for us.
We were made to feel welcome from the outset. Arrival instructions were clear, and a few bits and pieces had been supplied for us on arrival so we didn't have to rush straight out to the shops - nice touch. The owner / company checked in us after a couple of days too.
The décor was pleasant, white goods functional, and beds very comfortable. Out the front of the shopping centre was a short walk to the quay area, and public transport links. Out the back was straight onto one of the main streets, with chemists, supermarkets etc., leading up to restaurants and pubs.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at Over Strand. The only downside - and hence the reason for 4, not 5, stars - is the night-time noise from the shopping centre area, where some of the local kids were hanging out after hours. Not something they can do much about, but nonetheless, enough to detract a bit from the whole experience.

Hi Linda,

Thank you for your kind comments. We're glad you enjoyed your stay over the Christmas break.

Sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused by the centre lift and escalators not working at night. They are turned off for security and safety reasons. You might not have been aware but the service lifts leading to the secure car park are in operation 24/7 and can be used when the others are not in service.

The centre did see an increase in numbers during your stay as the Christmas holidays are the busiest time of the year. The house is equipped with double glazing to keep noise to a bare minimum.

We hope to welcome you back soon.
