The West Country region
Land End Peninsula & beyond
The Hut is in Mousehole, set in the exclusive "Mountains" and is one of the most beautiful harbour villages anywhere in the world. The Land’s End Peninsula is an area of exceptional natural beauty in the far west of Cornwall and for those of us lucky enough to live here, it is the real Cornwall. The picture postcode perfect Mousehole village, the stunning coast path, the gorse-covered moorland, weather-beaten cliffs and prehistory remains of this corner of Cornwall have for centuries attracted artists and writers. When you stay at The Hut, you are ideally placed to explore this inspiring landscape.
Though it feels incredibly secluded The Hut is located in Mousehole and just a short drive (or walk or bus ride) from the busy coastal towns of Penzance and St Ives, both of which are full of galleries, independent shops, pubs and restaurants.
On Your Doorstep
The Hut is located in Mousehole, there is much you can see and do without getting in the car..
Here are a few ideas to whet your appetite.
Art, Culture and Days Out
Cornwall has a rich heritage of creativity and art, and the county’s cultural line-up is more vibrant now than ever. Art permeates most aspects of life in West Cornwall, and there’s local, national and international art year-round at Tate St Ives, the Exchange in Penzance and Newlyn Art Gallery. We offer guaranteed places at the excellent Newlyn School of Art, Plays, operas and musicals are staged every summer at the open-air Minack Theatre, built into the cliffs above Porthcurno. Cornwall is also home to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth, iconic St Michael’s Mount which you can see from The Hut and, of course, the world-famous Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan.
Food and Drink
Cornwall has a thriving food and drink scene, you can buy fresh, just-landed seafood in the nearby working port of Newlyn; eat at an array of nationally acclaimed restaurants in St Ives or Penzance, including the nationally acclaimed Porthminster Beach Cafe; drink multi-award-winning Cornish ‘champagne’ made by Camel Valley or Poolgoon; or try a cone of Jelberts ice-cream made just ‘up the road’ in Newlyn.
Thanks to its open spaces and long coastline, Cornwall is perfect for active pursuits. Take your pick from walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, wild swimming, or, of course, some of the best surfing in the UK (including the beautiful Sennen beach) We can organise surfing lessons or charter trips for you – just let us know your wishlist and we will make it happen.
An unspoilt village on the Cornish coast, Mousehole is small but perfectly formed.
If you’re staying at The Hut, you could easily while away your whole holiday nosing around its pretty, winding streets, admiring the fishing boats in the harbour, looking around its art galleries and craft shops or just chilling on the deck or lying in the garden.
For such a small village, Mousehole has an incredibly varied food and drink scene. There’s everything from traditional cream teas, Cornish pasties, fish and chips and pints of real ale, to chic restaurants for an evening meal or lunch. And there are many more pubs, restaurants and cafés in nearby Newlyn and Penzance – just minutes away by car or bus.
The village opens out onto a tiny beach held within the harbour, while stunning coastal walks stretch away in both directions, to Porthcurno Cove, the dramatic cliffs of Pendeen and Zennor and, of course, Land’s End, as well as a handful of lovely beaches and some of the best walking routes in Cornwall .
Food and drink
We think Cornwall has the best food and drink in the UK – and we’re not the only ones. TripAdvisor recently declared Cornwall the No.1 food destination in Britain outside London. So, foodies beware: you may never want to leave!
You can buy the freshest, most delicious seafood in nearby Newlyn; eat at an array of stellar restaurants; drink pints of smooth Cornish ale; or simply indulge in some legendarily creamy hand-made Cornish ice-cream.
Culture and days out
Cornwall has long attracted novelists and artists, and the county’s cultural line-up is now more vibrant than ever. There’s local, national and international art at Tate St Ives and the award-winning Exchange and Newlyn Art Galleries; plays, operas and musicals every summer at the extraordinarily beautiful Minack Theatre, built into the cliffs above Porthcurno; historic houses and gorgeous gardens at Godolphin House, Trebah, Trevarno and Trewidden; as well as the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth, iconic St Michael’s Mount and, of course, the world-famous Eden Project.
Newlyn Art School
Newlyn School of Art is a dynamic and innovative art school situated in the heart of the famous artistic colony of Newlyn. The School provides a wide range of high quality and exciting short art courses in disciplines such as painting, drawing, printmaking, stone carving and art history; all taught by some of the most well known artists working in Cornwall today. To find out more abut the range of courses on offer, the well known artists who provide teaching for the school and have a look at the Course Calendar go to www.newlynartschool.co.uk or call 01736365557 to ask for a brochure.
Mousehole has some fantastic galleries – our all-time favourite is the Sandpiper Gallery on the front, with its ever-inspiring range of arts and crafts, ceramics, and bespoke and antique furniture; the Essex Tyler Gallery also comes highly recommended. St Ives and Penzance are particularly good for art galleries.

"A romantic love nest with stunning views"
My partner and I spent a lovely long romantic weekend holed up in Mousehole at The Hut. I can't recommend this place enough; we loved it and will definitely be back!
As it's tucked away from it all and only accessible by footpath there is no allocated parking space, but there is a car park down in the harbour which isn't very far and only costs £3 per day, bearing this in mind I would highly recommend bringing a ruc sack with you to transport belongings/foodstuff (although there is a sack trolley available). If you intend to arrive after dark I would also suggest you bring a torch.
The views from The Hut are stunning, the space is very comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped and Emma is extremely helpful.
Big thumbs up from us!
