The Cornwall region
The far corners of Cornwall exhibit a rugged beauty and the country roads are edged with escallonia, fuschias and rhododendrons leading to sandy beaches often hidden by cliffs covered with thrift, and beloved of film-makers. The soft climate of this peninsula welcomes walkers, cyclists, surfers, swimmers and boaters. The remains of its industrial past and the earlier settlement from prehistoric times, together with the wonderful gardens, invite exploration.
Spectacular scenery along the far west Cornish coast and coastal path. Only a mile from Land's End and about five miles to the dramatic Minack Open Air Theatre. The Atlantic Ocean with its Gulf Stream brings the seals, dolphins and birds. If the weather this side doesn't suit, pop over to the south coast - only a few miles away! St Ives with its artistic community is only 14 miles along the stunning coast road. Many historic sites (castles to climb and explore!) and beautiful gardens, including the National Trust properties such as Trengwainton, are within easy reach, as well as varied beaches and intriguing small villages.
