The West Country region

West Cornwall is a stunningly beautiful area. From wild moorlands down to white-sand beaches, the coastal views are breathtaking. The Cornish coastal path is 5 minutes walk from Atlantic Lodge, and fabulous cliff top walks to Land's End or Cape Cornwall are possible within an afternoon. The vast expanses of Sennen and Gwenver beach are a short walk down through the sand dunes. White sand and azure seas lend a tropical feel to the smaller beaches nearby, notably Porthcurno and Treen.

Tiny fishing villages such as Penberth and Porthgwarra dot the coastline. Mousehole and Marazion are nearby, with tiny winding pathways and buildings rich in history. Newlyn has a thriving fish market, providing a wealth of seafood for the local area and beyond.

St Michael's Mount is one of many historic houses and gardens nestled in this area. It attracts thousands of visitors each year; accessed across a causeway or by small boat, this is an iconic Cornish landmark.

The Cornwall Mining Landscape is a World Heritage Site. Botallack, Geevor and Levant mines are all a short drive away. Engine houses and towers stud the landscape, providing unique points of interest when you are exploring the area.

The Land's End peninsula is also rich in ancient sites, with many standing stones, quoits and hill forts to discover. Carn Euny and Lanyon Quoit are just two examples of many 'must see' monuments.West Cornwall benefits from a warm micro climate, meaning that many sub tropical plants are able to thrive here. There are plenty of open gardens for keen horticulturists to enjoy. The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are also just over an hours drive away.

The area is also a vital stopping off point for migrating birds and a huge variety of bird life is spotted all year round. Basking sharks are seen every summer in the bay and dolphins are often spotted here too. Seals are constant inhabitants, but they still provide a thrill when spotted amongst the waves.

Sennen village has pubs and restaurants within walking distance of the house including The Old Success Inn which dates from the 16th Century and The Beach restaurant which has been recommended nationwide.

There is a thriving Farmer's Market on Tuesday mornings and several events through the year, such as Art and Crafts shows. The Golowan festival in Penzance and La Frowda festival in St Just happen in June and July.
