Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site is perfect for a family day out. Discover Roman life and epic history in stunning locations. Visit the farthest reaches of the Roman Empire and explore indoors and out at our Roman forts, towns and museums and uncover the story of Roman Britain.

"This review won't do the cabin justice - a genuine must see"

The cabin really is a masterpiece of craftsmanship in every department equalled only by the lovely surroundings. The attention to detail shown by Simon and Dominique really does ensure your stay here is 5 star self catering. Everything from the top quality kitchen to the Jacuzzi Hot Tub, to the fantastic flapjacks on arrival meant we all enjoyed a lovely stay. I really would recommend a visit and am looking forward to returning in the future.

"Stunning, 10/10"

This lodge did not dissapoint one bit, it really is amazing and the views are unbeatable. The cabin is built to a very high standard and Dominique and Simon have furnished the interior superbly with no expense spared! Really want to go back next year.

"Fabulous hideaway!"

We stayed as a family of 4 and our dog Charlie over the May bank holiday. We have stayed in a log cabin before but I have to stay Liddel water lodge is 5* self catering accommodation! The owners were a lovely friendly couple who couldn't do enough for you. We were greeted by Dominique who had left us home made cupcakes, biscuits and a bottle of wine as a welcome pack which was such a lovely gesture. The accommodation is fabulous, and it is evident that a lot of thought has been out in to the furnishings and the household items. I thought from the picture it would be lovely but even better than imagined. The kids loved the hot tub and my son spent hours in the river trying to catch a fish!! Already planning our next visit.

"Spot on - the perfect get-away"

We recently stayed at Liddel Water Lodge for a long weekend and we had a fantastic time. With beautifully crafted timbers on the outside, the log cabin is perfectly and tastefully decorated on the inside. With all of the modern amenities you would expect, there is also a lot of comfort, warmth and cosiness. A log-burner (along with a massive basket of logs) ensures that the evenings are always very comfortable and relaxing, while the hot-tub on the balcony gives the place a really exciting and modern twist. The doors in the living area fully open up so that you can really take in the unspoiled view. It really is a fantastic get-away and we will definitely be going back.

"As good as self catering can be"

All together I couldn't fault this place at all, beautiful secluded location, Dominique met us on arrival and was very helpful and accomodating without being intrusive at all, very nice to have some goodies as well. The standard of the lodge was excellent and a nice mix of rustic charm and modern comforts. Will certainly be back and recommending it to friends.

"Totally blown away, probably the best place we have ever stayed."

We booked our stay at Liddle Water Lodge after seeing the excellent reviews and pictures. Nothing compared to the amazing stay that we actually got. From the moment we first arrived we couldn't actually believe the place was real, it was so beautiful. Set totally on it's own, nestled down by the woods and the beautiful river. The lodge has been beautifully built and looks like part of the landscape, complimenting the view perfectly. Simon and Dom were the most attentive hosts you could ask for, giving us a lovely welcome when we arrived and then Simon would come everyday to check the hot tub and bring us more logs if we needed them. We felt ourselves unwind more and more each day and we also found more and more of Simon and Dom's brilliant attention to detail. Even the soap and bath bombs were of the highest standard! All the crockery was Royal Doulton and the furniture was beautiful and well chosen. The hot tub was also sensational! There is no WiFi or cellular at the property due to it being on it's own but we all agreed that this was a very good thing! It allows you to totally disconnect and we quickly hated hearing our phones beep when we did drive out to signal range! If you need to unwind and relax with the option of stunning British scenery on your doorstep, this is the place for you!

"Relax and recharge"

We stayed for New Year and thoroughly enjoyed the break, its like home from home with fantastic attention to detail and which makes the stay feel that extra special. We went to get away and relax and this is certainly what we all did, i'd highly recommend Liddel Water Lodge and we hope to return again soon. There is no wifi but this to me is an advantage, no distrubances helped to 100% relax.

"Best Honeymoon we could have wished for! Absolutely Outstanding! Highest Quality!"

Wow wow wow wow wow! What a place! This is a TRUE log cabin like no other with peace and quiet surrounding the cabin, no close properties nearby so it's like you are in a world of your own. It's the most gorgeous property with an amazing hot tub and log burner. Everything is of the highest quality even the kitchenware was Royal Doulton! They also have gorgeous quotes on plaques that are so heartwarming and homely like 'True Love casts out Fear' Beautiful! We were wanting a nice relaxing, peaceful honeymoon where we just focused on each other and didn't have to mix with others. We wanted to just hide away together all cosy and with lots of bad food and that's what we did! That's why we decided not to jet off anywhere and go on our own road trip and its the best decision we have ever made! We will definitely be back and are telling everyone to go there and it is by far the best place I've ever stayed. It is a true 5star unlike others that say they are 5star but aren't really. Dominique and Simon the owners are wonderful also and make the trip so easy from start to finish. Absolutely Outstanding!

Thank you for your review, we are delighted that you enjoyed staying in the log cabin for your honeymoon! We have loved building the lodge, it makes it worth all the effort when we get great feedback! We hope to welcome you back in the future.

"A fantastic place to get away from it all........................"

This wont be easy to leave a review without sounding like I know the owners, but I promise we didnt prior to booking. I looked and searched for ages to find the right type of place to just get away from the 'rat race' and wanted a LOG CABIN. The problem was most so called LOG CABINS are sat next to another 50 identical properties and didnt look that appealing. I came across Liddle Water Lodge and thought the pictures looked great.......and WOW, when we arrived we were so pleasantly suprised. A REAL LOG CABIN, sat on the river bank, totally stand alone and unique. It over looks the Liddle River which is also the border between England and Scotland. The view was lovely and the stay also came with fishing rights (although I left the rods at home). The decked area around the cabin was large and safe and is topped off with a state of the art jacuzzi. How fantastic to be sat outside in the cold but in a hot tub, lapping up the surrounding views. The property offers dressing gowns and towels with slippers, all lovely little touches. In addition the property was obviously fairly new, but extremely well thought out. 2 good sized rooms with confortable beds and linen. The kitchen was all brand new and state of the art with all the latest appliances and gadgets. The log burner in the living room was a great focal point, whilst all was cold outside, we were curled up on the huge sofa, drinking wine and listening to music through their huge TV, fantastic surround sound speaker system. Highly recommend to watch any movie on the system. DVD's provided but always good to take one you havent had chance to watch at home yet. Oh yes, also huge flat screen on wall in master bedroom at end of bed! Also NO mobile phone signal BLISS. Carlisle is on the door step with loads of high street shops, or try Gretna Green which is lovely and quaint with lots of local produce shops. Highly recommend to anyone! We are booking up again for next summer, but with our 2 boys this time. Dominique really friendly, met us on arrival with keys and explained everything we needed to know. Cant wait to go back! I would just say I stop in hotels several times per week due to my job and have stayed in many places. This was easily in the top 3 places I have ever booked.
