About this location

The East Anglia region

Taking a break at the Pippins by the Lake in West Norfolk is the ideal way to explore this atmospheric and historic county. West Norfolk is the closer than much of the county but still has lots to offer. The coastline is the major attraction here, with miles of sandy beaches stretching from historic King’s Lynn all the way round to Great Yarmouth, famous for its Golden Mile and multitude of seaside attractions and entertainments. Cromer (noted for its crabs and pier), Sheringham and Hunstanton are also firm family favourites. If you prefer something quieter during your stay in Norfolk, try driving around the North Norfolk Coast, a designated Area of Natural Beauty and a haven for walkers and birdwatchers. Venture inland and you’ll discover a gently rolling landscape dotted with flint cottages and ancient churches.

The county town of Norwich is one of England’s best-preserved cities and is a joy to wander around. Don’t miss a visit to the magnificent cathedral towering above the surrounding medieval streets. East of the city lie the Norfolk Broads, a vast expanse of interconnected lakes and waterways which has long been a firm favourite with sailors. Hire a boat for a day to see them at their best.

Thetford Forest is a short car ride. Less well-known are the mysterious Brecks, a wilderness area of heaths and forests and one of the least-populated parts of the country.

Reviews by our previous guests scream about how good 'Bewilderwood' is especially for teenagers. There is a good wave pool at Thetford that the whole family may enjoy.

There is a lovely golf course in nearby Middleton or a cheeky pitch and putt at Sunny Hunny (Hunstanton)

Pentney Lakes

If visitors to the Pippins by the Lake can tear themselves away from this relaxing rural haven, the north Norfolk coast’s myriad of attractions invite exploration. Glorious sandy beaches within 20 minutes, picturesque fishing and sailing harbours, and seal watching trips from Morston quay are all within easy reach, as are the Norfolk lavender fields. Trips to Hunstanton for traditional seaside fun or to Wells Next The Sea to crab fish on the harbour wall or take the small train from its harbour to the beach, made pretty with gaily painted beach huts, are a must, whilst a visit to the Queen’s estate at Sandringham makes for a very refined day out.

The attractive market town of King’s Lynn (6 miles) offers good shopping, restaurants and the historic harbourside. Shop and a highly regarded local pub serving food are 2 miles. The Sand Boy does great Thai food and there is a good chinese in the local village (2 miles). There is a play centre for little ones at The Freebridge Farm (Brewers Fayre) (9 miles).

Waitrose is in the lovely market town of Swaffham (8 miles east) or push on to the pretty town of East Dereham and lose a day browsing the shops. Both have markets
