The Lake District
Set within walking distance of the Lake District National Park the cottage is ideally suited for walkers, allowing access onto the remotest parts of the Park. Along with its better-known neighbours of Kendal, Sedbergh and Appleby-in-Westmorland, the village is surrounded by lovely rolling countryside and beautiful scenery. The village centre has 2 local pubs serving good food, a post office, tea-room, small supermarket, fish and chip shop and a heated outdoor swimming pool (May to Sept). A village sports field with tennis courts, football pitch and children's play area. Take a short drive and discover the unspoilt lake of Haweswater - home to the only pair of nesting Golden Eagles in England, or take advantage of the excellent road links to the Lake District, the Eden Valley, Scotland and the Yorkshire Dales.

"peaceful country setting...a great getaway location"
Very peaceful and comfortable. The cottage was extremely clean and well kept. It offered everything needed for a short or extended stay. The country setting offered easy access locally as well as to the larger district. We wished we had more time to explore the area close to the cottage and town. Bring shoes that can get muddy, the paths can be a bit sloppy when it rains.
Many thanks for a great review. Yes please bring waterproof footwear if you intend to go walking in the open countryside near the cottage as it can be muddy once you leave the road. Its well worth the effort as the cottage is a 5 minute walk along a road to the Lake District National Park with deserted fells and mountains to explore. Wellington boots are good for kids so they can play in the river or fish using the nets and buckets we provide.
