Home description
There can be few locations more tranquil than Selborne Golf Estate. In addition to a super golf course there is an outdoor swimming pool 2 minutes stroll from T16. Five minutes walk will bring you to an unique hotel, formerly a sugar baron's home, with its excellent restaurant, friendly bar and large outdoor pool. The Selborne Hotel Spa offers day visitors the opportunity to recuperate in an atmosphere that quickly makes you forget the stresses and everyday anxieties of life, and for the "fitness fanatics" there is also a gym at the hotel.
Pennington's coastline is a 5 minute drive away, where Selborne manages it's own private beach club, which has a pool and where snacks can be purchased, before you take the plunge into the warm Indian Ocean surf!
Scottburgh, a quaint and popular seaside town, is an easy 14km motorway drive from the estate, where you can find various supermarkets, restaurants, pubs, banks and interesting shops. The South African version of M&S (Woolworths), Scottburgh branch, opened last year, and here you will find quality food and garments. You can buy the famous South African boerewors (farmer's sausage) and succulent steaks in any of the butcher's shops in town, and take them back to Selborne to 'braai" (BBQ) over an open fire.
Sun, sea, sport and good times are here for the taking!

The Kwa Zulu Natal region
KwaZulu-Natal Province: South Africa’s domestic tourism leader, highly popular among visitors from throughout continental Africa and increasingly on the ‘must-see, must- do’ lists of discerning travellers. These holiday makers from all points of the globe seek and find a unique blend of sophistication, cultural diversity and excitement – in the most breathtaking setting imaginable. The green rolling hills of Natal have long been famous for their beauty and the feelings of tranquillity they instil in the weary traveller. They have however borne witness to many a bloody battle, and guided tours are available where those interested in the history of the Zulu kings can be enthralled in the beautiful surroundings.
Pennington area
One of the most attractive and popular resorts on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, Scottburgh’s past is steeped in both colonial and traditional Zulu culture. Shaka, King of the Zulus, and his entourage were amongst some of the early visitors to this area. Today, Scottburgh is a thriving coastal resort. Drawn by the year-round temperate sub-tropical climate and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, visitors flock to escape the cooler hinterland to enjoy the town’s natural and cultural attractions.
How to get there
- There are numerous flights daily from Johannesburg Airport (Oliver Thambo International) to Durban, operated by scheduled (SAA and BA) and budget carriers (One Time and Kulula). All have websites. - Transport can be organised through the hotel, but for independence and easy sight seeing, it is best to hire a car from the numerous car hire firms situated at the airport (Imperial, Hertz, Avis). - Take the N2 highway south exit from Durban Airport, and after a relaxed drive on excellent motorway for about forty-five minutes, take the Sezela off-ramp. Turn left from the off ramp and the entrance to Selborne is about four kilometers further on the left hand side, near the village of Pennington. - Driving in SA is on the same side of the road as UK
