Home description
This recently restored house, located in the national park, is just outside the town of Civitella Casanova. The town has a range of shops, restaurants and a good outdoor public swimming pool. The house has a large open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area on the ground floor as well as a good sized double bedroom and a shower room. A wrought iron staircase leads to a landing with a semi-circular sitting area. There is a large master bedroom with Juliet balcony; another good sized twin room and a spacious bathroom.
There are amazing views from all windows from the mountains to the sea, and the range of possibilities for activities is endless. There are excellent walks signposted from the house, and the local village is rustic , friendly and charming, especially on summer nights when there is usually some form of outdoor event (dances, band nights and local food events are common). Beaches are 40 minutes away, there is a golf course and ski area nearby, and the shopping in Pescara is good. There are many ancient towns to explore, and beautiful foods to try.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region
The region of Abruzzo lies on the Adriatic coast in the central part of Italy. It is one of Italy's best-kept secrets with miles of sandy beaches, breath-taking countryside and snow-capped mountains. It is an agricultural region that specialises in wine (Montepulciano d'Abruzzo) and olive oil. The regional food is arrosticini - tiny little lamb kebabs which are heavenly. The food is local, fresh and very reasonably priced.
Mussolini hid in the hills here during the Second World War, and there are lots of ancient towns to explore such as Chieti and L'Aquila. The climate is usually hot in summer, although in the hills it can change quite quickly although storms are usually short and sharp.
Penne / Civitella Casanova area
Civitella is a small and friendly town. It has a small supermarket and other general stores, as well as a fresh pasta shop, bakery, a couple of bars and an excellent restaurant. The ice-cream shop was recommended by the New York Times in 1935 and continues to make its own ice-cream on a daily basis. It also sells superb prosecco! There are some other good local pizza and meat resaurants near the village, and there are often evening events and festivals throughout summer selling food and wine.
The village also has a good outdoor swimming pool that is open from May to October, and a children's play park. There is a market in Civitella every Sunday selling fresh vegetables, clothes and toys, although the one in nearby Cepagati is even better. You can walk to the top of the nearest mountain (Colle Madonna) from the house, and there are various walks and wildlife to be seen.
Nearby there are lots of old towns to visit such as Penne and Loreto Apprutino and there are markets and good restaurants at each. Chieti is also worth a visit as it is a beautiful town with an archeological museum (and a large shopping mall called Megalo). Pescara is a lovely city with a pedestrianised main street leading to the beach (13km of it). There is a nearby golf course, and a winter ski resort.
How to get there
The nearest airport (40 mins) is Pescara, and Ryanair fly there every day from Stanstead. Rome is less than 2 and a half hours easy drive on the autostrada, and there are hundreds of daily flights to both airports in Rome with Easyjet and Ryanair.
Car hire is easy from both cities, and the cheapest is Europcar if you book it through the airline web-site as you get a discount.

Further details indoors: The house is spacious and has modern furniture, as well as a new oven and washing machine. The bathrooms are spacious and well-appointed with beautiful Italian tiles on the floors and walls. There are fans in all the bedrooms for when the weather gets hot, but the house tends to stay relatively cool inside due to its design and position.
Further details outdoors: The house has a large flat garden (1000 square metres) of grass and shrubs, with 360 degree views. There is a patio leading from the front door, and outdoor furniture so you can dine outdoors and enjoy the views. There are houses nearby, but none of them are too close and the neighbours are friendly and helpful.
Further details
It is an easy house for groups with people who can't manage stairs easily as there is a downstairs bedroom and bathroom - there is one step to get into the house and one step into the kitchen. The house is on the market to sell, and from time to time the local estate agent may need to show people round the house. We have reflected this is the rental prices, and assure you that we would not sell the property until the end of the rental season.
