Home description
Casa Pennadomo is located in the old village piazza of Pennadomo, nestled behind a rocky hill on the edge of the Appennine mountains, near the valley of Lake Bomba, close to the Abruzzo National Park, and about 160kms by road from L'Aquila.
The residents have lived there all their lives and are incredibly warm people. With lake Bomba a 5 min drive down the valley, the beach 30 minutes away, skiing in Roccascalegna 1 hr away and the stunning mountain views it's hard not to be touched by the overwhelming natural beauty of Abruzzo.
The village shops have all the food you need: a baker, a butcher, a grocer and a bar. The bakery sells delicious bread and sweets as well as local pasta and eggs and the grocers sell everything from fruit and veg to pasta, meats and cheeses. There's several traditional Abruzzo restaurants (Agriturismo's) located nearby too.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region
Abruzzo encompasses a rich and varied landscape: from the long sandy beaches of the Adriatic Coast with traditional wooden fishing huts and hidden coves to the small arable farms, streams and woodland hidden along the luscious green valleys and finally the magnificent heights of the Majella and Gran Sasso peaks of the Appenine mountain range. There's only 30km between the beach and the mountains and a third of the region is protected by national/regional park status.
Abruzzo is also home to some of Italy's best preserved medieval and Renaissance hill towns several of which lie within the Majella National Park.
Abruzzo is the perfect all year round holiday. Every season offers a unique experience; spring and autumn are mild in temperature and the wildlife, birds and vegetation flourish against the stunning backdrop of snow-capped mountains. Summers are hot with mild sea temperatures, hazy meadows and a wealth of streams and rock pools to explore. Winters are a magical time, a blanket of snow draped over the stunning mountain scenery, the comforting smell of wood fires warming the villages and the fresh, clean mountain air.
Pennadomo area
Lake Bomba sits at the foot of Pennadomo. You can walk down from the village to the lake or visit the small water park with pedalos and boats on the opposite side. The village is ideally located for mountain walks, cycling and climbing. There's around 500km of hiking paths in the Majella National Park. There’s pony trekking 6 km away and skiing in the winter; Roccaraso is the biggest resort and is only an hour away.
The village shops have all the food you need: a baker, a butcher, a grocer and a bar. The bakery sells delicious bread and sweets as well as local pasta and eggs and the grocers sells everything from fruit and veg to pasta, meats and cheeses.
There’s a couple of Agriturismos nearby that serve local dishes, one is on the banks of the lake, another is a short drive on the outskirts of Rocascalenga.
Lanciano is the nearest city, built in 1181 and known for the first recorded Catholic Eucharistic Miracle. The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Ponte and Santa Maria Maggiore are beautiful. If you go down about 7 in the evening everyone is out walking down the main esplanade.
