'Villa Caterina' is stone country house or 'casale', built recently using traditional materials and beautiful furnishings. 'Villa Caterina' boosts all modern comforts, including central heating, satellite/cable TV and luxury kitchen equipment.

The villa has five bedrooms and four bath/shower rooms. The grounds are immaculately tended, and the roofed terrace, ideal for al fresco dining (BBQ!), overlooks a valley covered with olive groves and oak woods. 'Villa Caterina' has beautiful beamed ceilings, terracotta tiled floors and traditional wooden furniture, respecting the rural character of its surroundings.

Our landscaped garden, which is fully-fenced and therefore extremely suited for families with (small) children, boosts spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and the medieval village of Penna in Teverina. 'Villa Caterina' is situated in a beautiful green valley, some 20 min from Terni, the provincial capital, and about one hour north of Rome.

The Umbria region

Umbria, the 'green heart' of Italy, will surprise visitors with its unique blend of nature, history, culture and cuisine. The green hills of Umbria are dotted with pittoresque medieval villages, of which many have changed very little over the centuries. Not to be missed are the charming little towns of Amelia, Narni, Todi, ... and of course the better-know cities of Perugia, Orvieto, Assisi and Spoleto, to name but a few. Nature lovers must see the lakes of Bolsena and Piediluco, the Oasis of Alviano, the fossil forest of Dunnaroba or the waterfalls of Marmore, the highest waterfalls of Europe. Those interested in Roman or Etruscan history should visit the ruins of Ocriculum, Carsulae, Tuscania, Tarquinia and Volci.

A trip to Umbria would not be complete without enjoying its cuisine. Excellent food and wine are just as much a part of the region's charm as its forests, frescoes, and castles. Wine and olive oil, the two absolute protagonists of Umbrian cuisine dating back to the Umbrians and the Etruscans, have modelled the landscape into a characteristic succession of vineyards and olive groves. Visitors can tour the region's many vineries, following for example the 'Strada dei Vini Etrusco'.

The nearest beach, at Lido di Tarquinia, is about 1 hour away.

The closest shops for basic needs (cash machine, groceries, butcher, newsagent, bar, pharmacy, hardware store) are all within walking distance from the villa (1.5 km). For well-stocked supermarkets, guests can go to Giove (3 km) , Amelia or Orte (15 min drive).

The proximity to Rome makes a day trip by train to the capital (35 minutes from Orte) no problem at all.

'Villa Caterina' is only 15 min away from one of the most important railway stations in Central Italy, Orte. Frequent direct trains connect Orte to the centre of Rome (Termini) in 35 min, and to the national airport of Fiumicino in 1.5 hours.

'Villa Caterina' comprises 5 bedrooms: bedroom 1 and 2 each have a double bed, bedroom 3 and 4 each have two single beds, and bedroom 5 has two bunk beds and a double bed. In addition, guests may use the double sofa bed in the living area, as well as three baby cots. There are two bathrooms, each with a sink, bath tub and toilet, a shower room with sink, shower cabin and toilet, and an on-suite toilet room. The fully-equipped country kitchen, featuring high-quality appliances including a gas cooker, electric oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker and juice extractor, will cater to the needs of even the most demanding cooks. Guests can relax in the living area (three sofas, one armchair), watching the flames in the open fire or enjoying a movie on the 32'' flatscreen TV (DVD player, satellite/cable TV available). The 150m² playroom under the villa, with pingpong, table football and board games, provides an ideal solution for rainy days (which are rare in these parts!). In the laundry room, guests will find a sink, washing machine, ironing board and iron.

'Villa Caterina' is extremely suited for families with children, who can play in the fully-fended 5000 m² garden. Parents do need need to worry about safety - the garden is exceptionally well kept and does not feature any 'danger areas'. Guests can take in views of the surrounding olive groves and oak woods and of the medieval village of Penna in Teverina from the roofed terrace (with lounge furniture) and dine all-fresco on the patio (dining table and chairs available). BBQ. Mountain bikes on-site. On-site parking available.

Conditions

Bookings will be confirmed only upon receipt of a deposit of one third of the total rental. The balance of the hire charge must be paid at least 3 weeks prior to the commencement of the holiday. We may treat the booking as cancelled if the balance of the hire charge is not sent by this date.

A damage deposit of 500 € is payable upon arrival. The deposit is fully refundable after the property has been inspected.

'We rented this villa for a get together of 10 people over Christmas. It is a very nice and clean place with a big yard, five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a fireplace, stone flooring and a great kitchen. The central heating worked well. We used it to make day trips to towns in beautiful Umbria and Rome but spent a few days in the villa as well. Almost every night we made dinner in the well equipped kitchen. You will need a car to get to the villa. The owner made sure there was someone to meet us there and was very helpful when we had questions. We had a fun and relaxing time. I recommend this villa'.
