Full Description

The Lodge is a converted stable sitting in private grounds at the rear of a notable Victorian villa (Bryn Hedd) in the seaside village of Penmaenmawr on the North Wales coast between Conwy and Bangor

This Characterful property is now available for holiday lettings. It had the benefit of some upgrading in 2010 when a new kitchen, second bedroom facility and shower room were fitted. The main ensuite bathroom was replaced in 2009.

The main feature room is the upstairs lounge reached via a spiral staircase. (please note this staircase may not be accessable for the infirm or physically challenged). This room covers the whole footprint of the property and features exposed original beams, log burner and fabulous views to Anglesey and Puffin Island.

The Lodge is furnished in charismatic style with much antique furniture, personal effects, original paintings, books cd's dvd's and a whopping stereo. I also leave wellies, fleeces, waterproofs etc in the kitchen should guests need them. This is an old property, a converted stable, and may not be up to the hotel standards of high end holiday lets and not as spacious as some but if you want character at a very competitive price the Lodge could be for you. It is probably best described as boho. If you are very fastidious and only satisfied with very high specs and conspicutive consumption it's probably not for you. Bland it is not!

With the addition of a sofa bed in the upstairs lounge the Lodge can now accommodate six persons

To the front of the property is a sizeable Welsh slate patio which is a great sun trap (up to an unbelievable 40 degrees C last summer). The lodge also faces West so benefits from sunshine from before midday all the way through to fabulous sunsets over the Menai Strait during the Spring and Summer (when the sun shines!)

The property is located a short walk (from 5 -15 minutes) from the village centre, beach and Snowdonia National park.

If you wish to stay local during your vacation you can enjoy the antique shops and restaurants of Penmaenmawr's restored village centre or the wide sandy beach ideal for walking, bathing, sailing or fishing or explore Snowdonia national park and quickly find yourself in the stunning wilderness of the Carneddau mountain range (much quieter than the Snowdon area). It is possible to walk over the mountains to the beautiful harbour town of Conway in just over two hours or even along the beach when the tide is out. The less energetic can drive in ten minutes or take the bus or do what I do which is walk there and take the bus back to Penmaenmawr after enjoying Conwy's fabulous pubs and restaurants. In fact because of Penmaenmawr's coastal location on the main train and bus route along the North Wales coast you could enjoy a holiday here without the need of a car! Great train links from Manchester, Chester and Liverpool to Llandudno Junction and to Pen itself (a request stop!). If I'm about I'll pick you up.

If you wish to travel further afield Penmaenmawr is an ideal base from which to explore North Wales. I like to think of Anglesey as my front garden and Snowdonia as my back garden. In little more than half an hour you can drive to Anglesey, or the heart of Snowdonia (Betws y Coed or Llanberis) or be enjoying the shopping in genteel Llandudno. Driving an hour or more will see you on the magical Llyn Peninsular or Southern Snowdonia around Dolgellau or Port Merion. The range of attractions that this whole area offers is without compare in England and Wales. Think of all the benefits of Cornwall and the Lake District combined without the hassle of getting to Scotland (unless of course you live there!) and you have an idea of what the whole of North Wales has to offer.

This list is by no means exhaustive. Fishing Sailing Walking Climbing Rambling Rafting Kayaking Surfing Canyoning Coasteering Paracending Paragliding Parasurfing Windsurfing Power Boating Fell Running (madness) Mountain Biking Caravanning Camping Free Camping. Anyway I'm sure anyone looking for a place to stay in North Wales is aware of all this.

Oh yes Golf! There are some great links courses along the coast - Conway being the nearest. Penmaenmawr has an excellent half course however (certainly less than half an hour walk) and the whole area is rather underrated according to a group of American Golf tourists who I met in Conway last year (I'm not a golfer tho I do have an old set of clubs if you wish to borrow them). Much cheaper than Lancashire or Scotland with comparable courses they said.

Please email me through the holiday lettings site if you require any further information.

I have recently had a couple of bad reviews both of which I think are very extreme. I have explained that the Lodge is not 5 star but it is cleaned and linen and towels washed after every stay. It's quite difficult to be told that bedding has not been changed, that the kitchen is filthy when you KNOW both have been cleaned. When someone immediately decides that they "couldn't possibly" stay there then you know you are dealing with an extreme reaction. The lodge is not an isolation unit and not suitable for the very fussy, perfectionists or those verging on hypochondria. For people who like a cosy cottage atmosphere and won't become hysterical if my cleaner missed a cobweb it's ideal. For more details please read the reviews and my responses and remember that I have had at least 12 perfectly happy stays this year (my first year of holiday lets) and many kind words of appreciation that have not as yet been translated into reviews. If you would like to bring your own towels and linen you are most welcome.

"Want to stay somewhere different, stay at the Lodge"

Arrived on Wednesday and left on Monday night, 2 adults and 3 teenagers. The Lodge is not the Hilton but we thought it was a brilliant place to stay. The weather helped, and the local pubs, beaches and neighbour's were great. Small kitchen, couple of things not working but we managed without any other problems. You have see the living room to see how un-usual this property is, the view in the evening is magnificent. TV set ok, log burner lovely, loads of reading books, just watch the spiral staircase if you have young kids or dogs. The village is clean and friendly and we found the local pub with SKY Sports on, the locals in the Bron Eryri pub were very friendly. The Gladstone pub is a bit expensive for food but well worth a visit. Sit outside in the evening, have a few drinks and watch the sunset over Puffin Island. Local beach clean, young kids playground, great for dogs, but 10 mins away is Morfa Beach near Conwy, great for young kids.
