"The perfect spanish holiday"

Holiday notes from happy Norwegian family-
With anticipation we all set out for Peniscola without really knowing what we went for. We had all been in Spain before, the older ones several times, and we had our experiences ranging form the excellent to the less enjoyable.
Arriving at the flat we experienced to our satisfaction that the standard and view over the sea was far above the average and including a nice rent; the deal was excellent or as the say in Spain "estupendo" (fantastic).
The town of Peniscola is as most smaller townships in costal Spain a happy and not always aesthetic mixture of the ancient, old and the new, but sticking to the area around the medieval castle one can really get a fair taste of old Spanish history plus a taste of old stories from the Crusaders and heretical catholic religion; since this was the castle of the "other pope" not living in Rome: Pope4 Luna.
The castle is filled with memories of the past, but the streets around the castle are filled with openair restaurants serving typical Spanish cuisine to excite your taste-buds for a reasonable price including local vine!
Some restaurant-owners in more minor places in town were so happy to sell their means we got rosaries as a part of the deal, probably hoping we would pray for business luck? The terrain around the town is excellent for mountain-biking, trekking, swimming and sunbathing.
We enjoyed our treks in the sun 120Fahrenheit and visited the monastery of Saint Antonio who is the patron for domestic animals. On the 4,2 km path up the hillside you will loose 2 gallons of sweat. The building has a magnificent view and a few icons of Saint Antonio blessing pigs, cows and chickens.
If you plan to go mountain biking-bring your own bikes or talk to David and Amanda. They might have some plans regarding this.
Beaches are excellent, the central ones with fine sand, the more remote you get them the more pebbles and stones there are. On the most remote spots you may enjoy naked sunbathing if that is your thing, but beware of Peeping Toms and sometimes “aggressive” skinny-dippers who are out to invite you more than a chat; so wisely we kept our bathing-suits on and silently slipped away when action got too intensive from some naked Spaniard putting on a more spectacular expose of his merchandise.
All in all a splendid holiday. Since at least two of use are mountain-bikers we hope that next year we can bring our bikes ,a few friends with the same same mania and explore the terrain.
If you like MotoGP going to Motorland in Aragon is only 2 (ish)hours away on scenic routes through Spanish highland and the GP-show is worth the money.
If you like football most bars have a TV screen but will turn down the volume if asked.
All in all we recommend the township, the nature, the flat and say: better holiday in Spain is hard to find, if ever.

Many thanks for the brilliant ,informative and most entertaining review .
We are already looking forward to your return visit !
Best wishes from Peniscola.Amanda and David

"Nice experience"

Peniscola is a very charming Town (village). The neighberhood is facinating: several type of beaches, a lot of biking or walking possibilities.
One big recommendation: a car is a must.
The apartment was lovely, well maintained and modern.
More important, at any time You can call the owners who will help You or advise You as best as can be expected.
For older people please note that it is a second store apartment (51 stairs from the garage!).

We are so pleased you enjoyed your "6 week " July - Aug. holiday at our apartment and exploring the local area.
It was a pleasure to meet you all and thank you for your kind guest book comments about how well equipped the property is.
The walk to town is less than 15 mins.along the coast road but can sometimes be too hot or difficult in High season and the car parks are quite busy in the town July - August .
All other times parking is easy ...& free from mid Sept. to end of June !
The summer time bus service is excellent ,every hour to Peniscola South beach ,1.4 kms for only 1 euro.
The apartment underground garage keeps your car cool in the Summer but lots of steps ! far easier and quicker in the parking area outside the apartment.
We thank you for recommending us to your family and friends and hope to
welcome you back one day .

"We wanted a restful holiday and thats exactly what we got"

the apartment was lovely and very well equiped if you wanted to eat in, the old town of peniscola is charming and all of the people are very friendly. David and Amanda are very helpful, nothing is too much trouble. If you like walking/hiking this is the place for you right on the edge of a nature reserve. However, we felt a car is necessary, as the walk into town is along a coastal road with no footpath and could be dangerous, although alot of people did walk along it the bends meant drivers couldn't always see you until on top of you. Lots of tradtional spanish restaurants, also good supermarkets in town.

Thank you for your lovely review. We hope you choose one of our rental properties again.
Thank you for recommending us to your friends and family.
Best wishes from Peniscola

"Ideal base for a stay in Peniscola."

The Nerea Residential Park is in a nice quiet location, just near the coast road leading to the Sierra D'Irta National Park. It's a short drive into Peniscola where parking is reasonably easy.
The apartment was clean and well-presented with a small TV offering kids CBBC.
It could do with another saucepan or two though. The kitchen is compact but adequate.
Regrettably, we managed to pick a week which began with heavy rain though it did get sunny again by midweek and the kids were both on the beach and in the sea. The complex pools were both closed though this was no drawback as it would have been too cold to swim. You get covered parking too.
The only downside is the (free) Wi-Fi which is very weak so if you NEED reliable Wi-Fi, this is not going to serve your needs.
Overall, we had a lovely week - Peniscola is a great resort with lots to offer from the picturesque town-within-a-castle to the two sandy beaches. Inland, I recommend a trip to Morella with it's stunning aerial castle.

Thank you for your Lovely review and Hope you return to Peniscola for a 3rd time .
An ideal location especially when the Sun is shining !
I agree about the Wifi signal last week - We had the same at our villa
for a few days & the internet provider informed me on my daily calls with them that there were technical problems after the storm damage which took longer than expected to fix .
I Just checked the kitchen cupboard & see there are still 4 saucepans in asst.sizes small to large,2 frying pans, paella pan ,plus a variety of oven to table ware.

Best wishes from Peniscola

"Spacious apartment in quiet, high quality residential development"

Owners Amanda & David Morgan very welcoming and friendly, and quick to reply to any queries we had about the property, the area, how to get to it etc. Quick to replace bulb and broken toaster! We were in a hire car without satnav so David met us in Peniscola to guide us in! Apartment had everything we needed. Pools were superb. View from our balcony of the Serra d'Irta hills and the sea lovely. What really makes it special is the restuarant by the pool, run by a hard working Spanish couple, which attracts the locals for a drink in the evening, making it feel like you are part of a large family (our son played football with the local boys until dark). Recommend the food, which is tasty and good value. The Sangria is rather good too!

Great to meet you all and thank you for your review.
Your comments in the apartment guest book are so helpful too ,the next guest took your advice and loved the Serra d.irta Natural park coastal walks !
Come back and visit us again and sample some more of the Paella and

"well equiped, comfortable and spacious"

We traveled with our 2 children ages 11 and 15. The apartment was very comfortable and had a terrace that was half the size of the apartment with spectacular views. It was relaxing to be able to watch the kids swim in the pool as we sat on our terrace. The location was a good walk to the town, that took about 20 minutes but it was a nice walk. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We rented a car and drove from Barcelona and then called when we got to town where the owners met us to guide us to the apartment.

Thank you for your kind review,we are so pleased you enjoyed your visit .
Best wishes to you all in in Canada, hope you travel this way again ...always a welcome in Peniscola!

"This was a fantastic apartment"

The apartment was lovely - everything you needed for preparing lunches and dinners. The equipment was great - hob, oven, washing machine etc. We had a fantastic time. There is a lovely pool that is not crowded and there is plenty of space and sunloungers, also a lovely pool bar for drinks and snacks and drinks and the staff were lovely. The old tiown is fantastic - we took a short bus ride for one euro into town and there are so many bars and restautants etc. it is fantastic.

Thank you all so much for your great review .
As you lived and holidayed in Southern Spain for a number of years we are thrilled with your feed back and so pleased you enjoyed this region .

"Perfect summer holiday for a family with children"

We had a perfect holiday! clean apartment, beautiful view, nice with the air-con and the restaurant and bar near by. The two pool also great for smaller kids. Peniscola is a great place to visit, and the apartment is a bit outside town, so there is absolutely quiet.
The host are very kind and helpful. We'll absolutely come back :-)
