The Valenciana region
Peniscola is a municipality in the Valencian Community, Spain, located in the north coast of the province of Castellón, in the region of Azahar.
Since January 2013, Peniscola network is part of the most beautiful villages of Spain.3
Peniscola is surrounded by landscapes of indescribable beauty. It is flanked to the south by the Sierra de Irta (one of the areas of greatest ecological value of the Valencian Community), to the east by the Mediterranean horizon where lies the Marine Reserve Columbrete Islands and north of the Delta Nature Park Ebro west Mastership opens inside, wide area monumental and natural wealth.
The city is located on a tombolo, a rocky peninsula, originally joined to the mainland only by a sandy isthmus, which made ??it easy to defend, but occasionally flooded and was buried under the sea water. Currently, due to the construction of the port and buildings on the isthmus, this curious fact has gone. On the rock stands the old town, which stands the castle of Papa Luna, Peniscola dividing the coast into two halves quite different. The mountain occupies the southern two-thirds of the term of 81 km ². The northern part is a small alluvial plain Benicarlo shares and reaches from the sea to the peaks of Puig.
Without doubt, the north beach of Peniscola is a reference to the beaches of the Costa del Azahar by the painstaking care, the length of it and the quantity and quality of available services. Parallel to it, at least much of it, runs a lively walk suitable for pedestrians and even bicycles. The views of the isthmus on which stands the castle are worthy of a stop and, in it, you can practice many water sports (jet skiing, sailing, windsurfing). The successive regenerations increasingly improved the beach, staking it houses some of the best hotels in Peniscola.
